Super Bowl Props: Super Bowl 52 MVP Betting Odds

NFL Super Bowl Props

Historically, quarterbacks have dominated Super Bowl MVP voting. Of the 51 Super Bowl MVPs in NFL history, 28 have been quarterbacks. That has meant the odds to win Super Bowl MVP have skewed heavily towards quarterbacks in recent years.

For Super Bowl 52, quarterbacks Tom Brady and Nick Foles are heavy favorites to win the award. Brady has been named the Super Bowl MVP in four of the five Super Bowls he has won over the course of his career, so it’s no surprise to see him listed at nearly the same price as the Patriots moneyline. As for Foles, the common belief is that if the Eagles are going to pull off the upset, it will be on the strength of Foles’ arm.

Seven of the last ten Super Bowl MVPs were quarterbacks. That is wholly unsurprising considering the state of the NFL nowadays.

Brady is always going to get serious love for any sort of MVP award. He is widely considered the GOAT after winning five Super Bowls, and he has led this team to numerous comebacks during his time in New England.

What makes Brady special is that he has never relied particularly on any one person. Instead, the Patriots have varied their attack from week to week. While one running back or wide receiver may be the focal point of the offense one week, he may have just a handful of touches the next week. Through it all, Brady has been the ringleader.

If Philly pulls off the upset, Foles will likely win the MVP. People love cheering for the underdog, and he has been a fantastic story. Foles took over for the Eagles after Carson Wentz tore his ACL in December. Philadelphia was widely counted out of contention despite finishing with the best record in the NFC, and he had two dreadful performances to end the year.

However, Foles has proven to be Mr. January. He has been impressive in both playoff victories and made hitting the deep ball look easy against Minnesota. The Pats defense has not been that good this year, and he could put up some big numbers.

It might be easy to bet on the quarterback, but where you can really make some money is on anyone else. The player with the next lowest odds to win the Super Bowl MVP is Rob Gronkowski at over 20-1.

Gronk could be a very good bet. First, he needs to be cleared to play after suffering a concussion in the AFC Championship Game, but there is no non-quarterback more important than him. Gronk is a matchup nightmare for any team and is capable of going off for over 100 yards and multiple touchdowns. If he plays, Brady will look his way often.

Keep in mind that two of the last four Super Bowl MVPs have been defensive players. These are the most lucrative choices on the board, with every defensive player being at least 100-1.

Fletcher Cox has been a disrupting presence up front all year long and has some value at 100-1. He could make Brady uncomfortable in the pocket throughout the game, and if he comes up with an important sack or fumble at the right time, he is suddenly very live at amazing odds to win the MVP.

The other defensive player to watch is Stephon Gilmore. Gilmore came up big in the AFC Championship Game and might have ample opportunity to grab an interception or two if New England jumps out to a lead.
