Week 5 NFL Odds at BookMaker.eu: Steelers -7.5, O/U 48
Steelers vs. Dolphins TV Coverage: CBS
Adam Gase has to be wondering what he can do with his defense right now. Ndamukong Suh was one of the many high-profile defensive players brought into this system to help stop the run, and the one thing the Fins aren't doing right now is stopping the run. Miami ranks dead last in the NFL in rushing defense at 150.8 yards per game allowed and is second to last in rushing offense at 72.4 yards per game. Getting outdone by a 2 to 1 ratio on the ground is a recipe for disaster.
Worse now is the fact that Ryan Tannehill is under fire as well. He's been awful this year with an 83.6 quarterback rating, and the only thing bailing him out is the fact that the team has hit seven passes of at least 40 yards already on the young season.
Pittsburgh though, is the king of the deep ball, and seemingly every week, Ben Roethlisberger is right on target with at least one of those throws, whether it be to Sammie Coates, Darrius Heyward-Bey or Antonio Brown. The Steelers are flat out scary right now for sure. They've played in subpar weather conditions these last two weeks and have topped 430 yards and have a total of 74 points to show for it.
The real renaissance has come on the defensive side of the ball, though. This unit had a bad game against Philly, but aside from that, no one has crossed 20 points against this team, and in all likelihood, that's a stat that will still ring true going into Week 7 as well.
Matchup To Watch
It's really the second corner that is under so much pressure when you play against the Steelers due to the fact that your top corner is almost always consumed with Brown.
You can already see how this is playing out. Le'Veon Bell is going to be a hammer in the running game again, and even if he isn't averaging four or five yards per carry, just his ability to hit home runs is going to cause the Fins to leave an extra body or two in the box. With Brown locked in up man coverage more often than not with Byron Maxwell, that's going to leave rookie Xavien Howard on an island with Coates and the rest of those speedy wide receivers.
You just know this is coming at some point, probably early in the game. Big Ben is going to take a shot 40+ yards down the field to Coates, and it's going to be a matter of whether Howard can keep up with him or not. We doubt he can. For all intents and purposes at that point, Miami is going to be short a touchdown.
Steelers vs. Dolphins Free Picks
We really hate laying 7.5-points on the road as we have to here on the NFL betting odds at BookMaker.eu, but we don't see any other result but an emphatic Pittsburgh victory. Over the course of the last two weeks, the Steelers have played against far better competition and have walked away with big victories.
Playing in South Florida isn't going to be an issue, knowing that the weather should be cooler in Miami, and field conditions should be great. And as always, Steeler Nation will be out en masse, and there will be times that game feels like a Steelers home game.
With Roethlisberger on target time and time again, at one point completing 14 straight passes against the Jets, there's no reason the Steelers won't score on most of their possessions against the Dolphins. That's going to set up a super showdown next week against the Pats in what might end up being the decisive game for the No. 1 seed in the AFC playoff picture in Week 6.
