Seahawks vs. Cardinals TV Coverage: NBC
The Seahawks currently find themselves perched atop the NFC West standings with a one game lead over both the Rams and Cardinals. Still, Seattle fans are a bit restless not knowing exactly what they got through the first six weeks of the season. The offense has struggled to run the football and put points on the board, while the defense was just severely tested against the lone offense it faced with a pulse.
The stop unit has been lights out overall with it ranked No. 1 in yards allowed (283.6) and No. 4 in scoring defense (15.6 points per game). They did however incur a major challenge last week against the Atlanta Falcons who were able to come back from a double-digit deficit in front of the 12th Man and actually take the lead in the second half before ultimately falling 26-24. A lead like that was normally safe in the past, but that wasn’t the case last week.
Since getting out to a 1-3 SU and ATS start, the Cardinals have gotten fat the last couple weeks by taking advantage of a pair of really bad football teams in the 49ers and Jets. With that, it’s truly tough to say Bruce Arians’ squad is back on track, but you no doubt have to like what you’ve seen from both David Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald in those games.
The duo combined for all four touchdowns against the Niners, and then Johnson added three more against the Jets on Monday Night highlighted by an explosive 58 yard touchdown jaunt in the first quarter. He’s averaged 134 rushing yards per game the last two weeks, and added another 55 total yards receiving. To be able to rush for 111 yards and average over 5.0 yards per carry against the Jets bodes well for the second-year player to possibly become only the second running back to log 100-plus yards rushing against the Seahawks this season.
Though last season’s Week 17 tilt between these teams meant everything to Seattle and absolutely nothing to Arizona, the 36-6 home defeat saw the Cardinals drop their third straight when hosting the Seahawks. All three of the games have been one-sided with Russell Wilson and his mates scoring the 34-22 win as 5 point chalk in 2013 and the 35-6 win and cover as near 10 point favorites in 2014.
Arizona has managed to claw back to .500, but in order for it to have a serious shot of cashing those +305 tickets to win the NFC West, it must protect its house against its biggest obstacle in doing so.
Seahawks vs. Cardinals Free Picks
Teams always bring a little extra to the field when it’s a divisional game. This rivalry has blossomed with the Cardinals resurgence, so it’s safe to say each side will bring its “A” game to the gridiron for this nationally televised Sunday nighter.
As good as both of these defenses have been the last couple seasons, it’s surprising to see the over 2-1 in the last three meetings. I’m expecting the defenses to rule the night with both squad’s stop units outperforming the offenses at this point in the season.
While we’ll be fading a 10-2 over streak against the closing odds at BookMaker.eu when these teams have hooked up in the desert, the fact that each of the Cardinals’ last eight home games combined for low scorers evens it out. As does Seattle’s 4-1 and 13-6 records to the under the last five times it played on grass and the last 19 times it squared off against a divisional opponent.
