Here is a look at Sunday’s game and NFL picks.
NFL Preseason Odds at BetDSI Sportsbook
Minnesota Vikings -4, total 41.5
The Chargers and Vikings are both coming off dominating wins last week. The Chargers routed the Arizona Cardinals 19-3 while the Vikings dominated the Seattle Seahawks on the road in an 18-11 win. The Chargers and Vikings met in the regular season last year with the Vikings winning by a score of 31-14.
San Diego quarterback Philip Rivers said that the third preseason game is important, but only up to a point. “You want to be crisp,” Rivers said. “But if we go out and have a great however-long (we play) this week in Minnesota, that does not mean we're going to be great in Kansas City.”
Even though this is Week 3 of the preseason, both teams will be looking to run the ball. The Chargers want to give Rivers a good rushing attack to take some of the pressure off him while the Vikings don’t want to take many chances with quarterback Teddy Bridgewater who has a sore shoulder. San Diego was just 27th against the run last season.
The Vikings probably won’t play Adrian Peterson who almost never sees action in the preseason so expect Jerick McKinnon and Matt Asiata to get a lot of work. If Bridgewater is pulled early, or if he is held out of this game, then the Vikings would be giving Shaun Hill and Joel Stave a lot of work.
The Chargers and Vikings have met 14 times in the preseason with the Chargers winning the most recent meeting in 2012 by a score of 12-10. The Vikings have an all-time preseason record of 150-97-3. The Vikings under head coach Mike Zimmer are 10-1 in the preseason while the Chargers under head coach Mike McCoy are just 6-8 in the preseason.
The Vikings are the better team, they have the better coach and they are playing at home so I will take Minnesota minus the points. This could also be a low scoring contest so I will also play the game under the total at BetDSI sportsbook.
