Giants vs. Redskins TV Coverage: FOX
Manning's 14-year career in New York was highlighted by two Super Bowls and lowlighted by this season. The only accomplishment Manning can brag about from this year is that he did enough to surpass John Elway for the sixth-most passing yards in NFL history and got closer to Fran Tarkenton for the seventh-most passing touchdowns ever.
If Manning is at the end of the road in New York, he's headed elsewhere with the franchise he rebuilt in worse shape than when he found it. This team is completely void of talent in so many key positions, and no man would have been able to salvage this wreck of a squad that Jerry Reese assembled in the offseason.
The Giants head into Week 17 without a single man with even 750 receiving yards or 600 rushing yards. Rookie Evan Engram leads the team with six touchdowns, and not a single one of the four men who have carried the ball at least 38 times is averaging more than four yards per carry.
Washington might not be elite, but it is playing well at the end of the season. The club can finish .500 with a win over the Giants, and winning three games in a row at the end of a year typically plays well for the following season.
Of course, the Redskins have plenty of questions going into their offseason as well, notably what's going to happen at the quarterback position. Kirk Cousins feels like he's on his way out (maybe to New York!), and this really should be last game in D.C.
Cousins has thrown for 27 touchdowns and 3,935 yards this year. Just the mere fact that he is going to have three 4,000-yard seasons for the Redskins since taking over as the full-time starter and will have accounted for nearly 100 touchdowns between his arm and his legs in that span is incredible and will certainly be reason for teams to be drooling over the prospects of signing him in the offseason.
Matchup to Watch
When you look at the Giants' running game against the Washington rush defense, it really is a case of the moveable force against the resistible object.
The Giants don't quite boast the worst running game in the NFL, but there's nothing here to write home about. Orleans Darkwa isn't going to cut it, and Wayne Gallman is fresh off of a game in which he had 10 carries for 18 yards. The rookie from Clemson is a better receiver out of the backfield and has better prospects going forward, so he should be the man used more often than not in this game.
Washington, though, ranks No. 29 in the NFL against the run. You know that things were bad when, two weeks ago against Arizona, the Cardinals rushed for 141 yards on 31 carries without Adrian Peterson in the fold.
Round 1 between these two teams was a relative draw. The Giants rushed for 84 yards on 24 carries in a 20-10 loss to the Redskins. It was one of the better days at the office at the end of the season for the New York ground game, but it was also one of the best days of the entire year for the Washington run defense.
Redskins vs. Giants Free Picks
Two quarterbacks at the end of the road for their respective NFC East teams makes for decent viewing as an undercard game on Sunday.
There are going to be a lot of emotional bets placed on the Giants in this game, but don't fall into the trap of all of the best internet sportsbooks. They're praying that you bank on Eli in his final endeavor in the Big Apple.
Instead, take the far more logical choice and back the more-motivated and the more-talented Redskins to finish out the year on a high.
