Redskins vs. Cowboys ATS Picks

NFL Betting Lines Week 13

We're officially at gut check time for the Dallas Cowboys and the Washington Redskins. These two teams are both a long way away from the playoffs in the NFC, and both are probably going to have to win out if they want to have a realistic chance of getting into the playoffs. Thus, their Thursday nighter against each other is going to be crucial, making this one of the most notable games to open a week of the NFL season.

Location: AT&T Stadium, Arlington, TX
Opening NFL Odds: Cowboys -1, O/U 44
Redskins vs. Cowboys TV Coverage: NBC

Apparently, Jerry Jones was right to really be worrying about Ezekiel Elliott. You don't normally think that missing a running back is going to be the end of the world, but the Cowboys are 0-3 without Zeke in the lineup, and they've scored a total of just 22 points in that stretch.

Of course, it hasn't helped that Tyron Smith, one of the best left tackles in the NFL hasn't played a game in that stretch either, but the Cowboys still shouldn't have gone from a team that won three in a row, scoring 101 points in those three games to losing three in a row and seemingly forgetting where the opposing end zone is.

Dak Prescott has failed to throw a touchdown in four of his last five games, and he's tossed five picks in his last two games. He has never had a stretch of such ineptness in his entire football career, including high school and college.

The Redskins salvaged their season last week when they beat the Giants on Thanksgiving night. The 20-10 victory wasn't exactly a thing of beauty, but at least at 5-6, they're still breathing with five games left to be played.

Perhaps the savior of this season for Washington has been Samaje Perine. The rookie from Oklahoma has run the ball 47 times for 217 yards and a touchdown in his last two games, making up for the fact that both Rob Kelley and Chris Thompson are out of the fold.

The Redskins are going to be forced to ride their rookie for as long as they can, knowing that he's the only suitable tailback left on the roster.

Betting Trends of Note

The Cowboys were three-point favorites when these two teams met back in October in D.C., a 33-19 victory that was a part of Dallas' season-saving three-game winning streak.

The Redskins only have one win in this series in their last six meetings, a 34-23 win on the last week of the regular season in Dallas in 2015.

You'd like to think that the Cowboys would have a real edge here at home, especially in a series that has always had a slew of close games. That said, Washington has covered nine of the last 10 in Dallas in spite of the fact that it has only won four of the six. Nine of the last 10 meetings between these teams in "Big D" have been decided by a single score.

Though the Redskins didn't exactly look like they were ready to play the Giants on Thursday night last week, they did get the job done, and that could help save their season. Kirk Cousins probably won't play as poorly as he did in the first half of the game against New York, and if his rally in the second half of that game is any indication, Dallas is in a lot of trouble.

It's just really hard to find any reason to place a bet on the Cowboys at any of the top NFL sportsbooks. Even against such a short spread like this one, Dallas just doesn't feel like it's a capable team. Washington has played against a brutal schedule this season, but this is finally a point in the year where it can make a nice run.

Go with the Washington defense to have a second straight excellent outing and post a season-saving victory.
