I was left shaking my head a couple weeks back when I read LA had decided to extend Jeff Fisher for two more seasons. It made absolutely no sense to me. What the heck had he done to earn another couple years leading the Rams into battle every Sunday? Upper management finally woke up on Monday when they served him his walking papers one loss before setting the record for the most as a coach in NFL history.
John Fassel will serve as interim coach the remainder of the season, and he’s got one heck of a challenge awaiting him in front of the 12th Man on Thursday night. The Rams did pick up a pair of wins on the road earlier this season, but it’s been ugly of late with the club just 1-3 straight up and against the spread in their last four road trips. The last two saw them fall by a 75-31 combined score to the Saints and Patriots.
It looks like Seattle has resorted back to the team it was before winning a Super Bowl and going to the big game in back-to-back seasons. Those days, you faded the Seahawks on the road and pounded them hard whenever at CenturyLink. The team has won all six of its home games played to date and covered four of them. On the road, the team’s mustered just two wins and covered three.
The Seahawks kept it close in Green Bay for a quarter last week, but was then outscored 21-0 through the next two quarters before ultimately falling by 28 points. The team hardly looked like the one that went into Foxborough and handed the Pats their only loss with Tom Brady under center this season. On a gimpy wheel, Aaron Rodgers lit their secondary up for 246 passing yards and three touchdowns. The defense gets a reprieve this week with rookie Jared Goff making his first start in front of the 12th Man.
A week removed from getting embarrassed by San Francisco in their season opener, the Rams were very good in their LA Memorial Coliseum debut limiting the Seahawks to just 306 yards of total offense and just three points. Los Angeles won an ugly game 9-3 to win their third straight and fourth in five tries against their division rival. Seattle has gone off the board favored in each of the last 10 meetings, but only managed to cash tickets in three of those games. Seattle closed as 11.5 point favorites the last time it hosted this rivalry, but went on to lose that game outright 23-17 after losing the turnover battle 3:0.

The Seahawks have covered following all three of their losses this season. They pummeled San Francisco 37-18 as 10.5 point home chalk, ousted the Bills 31-25 as 5.5 point favorites, and destroyed Carolina 40-7 as 8 point favorites a couple week’s back. Earl Thomas’s absence loomed large last week in Green Bay, but it shouldn’t make much of a difference against the Rams. Los Angeles owns the league’s worst total and scoring offense, and it last faced Seattle before it started to roll.
Seattle has turned up the heat at home all season long, and I don’t expect that to change in this one; especially with it coming off a loss and already falling to LA once this season. The Seahawks have covered the odds at BookMaker.eu each of the last three times it was installed 14 or more point favorites in its own house, and I expect that streak to remain intact even though LA has had its number recently. The matchup and timing couldn’t be much worse for the visitors.
