The Rams have been the most schizophrenic team in the league through the first five weeks of the regular season. After getting blitzed in Week 1 by the division rival 49ers, they returned home to beat the Seattle Seahawks and followed that win up with their first road triumph of the season at Tampa Bay; once again as underdogs. They logged win No. 2 on the road the next week at Arizona in a game that surprised many considering they went off the board as 10 point underdogs.
The betting public still didn’t believe in them at all after they opened as 2.5 point favorites against the Bills but closed as underdogs of the same amount last week. Rex Ryan’s squad ended up dominating the game in its entirety making those sharp enough to hit Buffalo all week look extremely smart. This is still an extremely flawed football team with the defense a sieve against the run and the offense sporting a 17.3 yard per point average (No. 22) that ranks No. 28 in red zone scoring.
Go figure, the Lions go out and beat the undefeated Philadelphia Eagles a week removed from allowing the Chicago Bears to log their first win of the season the week prior. That’s how the NFL goes this day and age. When everybody and their mother wants a piece of the action, run for the hills. When nobody wants to touch it with a 10 foot pole, buy as many shares as you can get.
Still, Detroit did its best to give that game versus Carson Wentz and company away after storming out to a 21-7 lead and then only managing a field goal the rest of the way that was set up by a P:hilly turnover deep in its own territory. The Lions don’t do anything particularly well either offensively or defensively. They can’t run the ball and only seem to move the ball when Matthew Stafford doesn’t turn into the invisible man. Such a tough team to gauge week in and week out.
These teams collided in St. Louis last season in a game won by the Rams 21-14 as 3 point home underdogs. The 35 points combined to go under the closing total of 41.5
Matthew Stafford completed 30 of his 46 passes for 245 yards and a 2:1 TD/INT ratio. Detroit amassed 111 rushing yards on 20 overall carries and won the turnover battle 2:1, but simply couldn’t contain Todd Gurley who had one of his best games of the season going off for 140 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The Rams sacked Stafford four times and held the Lions scoreless through the first half.
Rams vs. Lions Free Picks
While the Rams have been turnover happy the last couple weeks, save for last week, the Lions haven’t forced many miscues having done so an average of just 0.6 times per game. That bodes well for the visitors who will no doubt look to Gurley to build off last year’s stellar effort he put forth against this defense.
Just when you think the Lions are back on track, they let you down. Just when you think the Rams are going to resort back to the steaming hot pile of garbage you think Jeff Fisher’s team is, it kills your bankroll. Back the visiting Rams on the odds at BookMaker.eu to cover and get a little taste on the money-line as well.
