Rams vs. 49ers TV Coverage: ESPN
The Rams will eventually turn the keys of the offense over to Jared Goff but for now it is Case Keenum under center. He will be turning around and handing the ball off to Gurley on a regular basis as the Rams under Jeff Fisher will once again play a conservative style of football this season.
The Rams were last in the NFL a year ago in total yards per game with most of their success coming on the ground as they ranked 7th in rushing yards.
The 49ers will look different on offense this season as Chip Kelly runs a fast-paced offense. It looks great when it works but when it struggles the 49ers will go three and out and their defense will be on the field a lot.
Blaine Gabbert is expected to run the offense this season and he is actually not the terrible quarterback he was when he played for Jacksonville. Gabbert will be spreading the ball around and he does have some weapons around him including Carlos Hyde, Torrey Smith and Vance McDonald.
The 49ers beat the Rams 19-16 in overtime a year ago in the last game for Jim Tomsula as head coach. Phil Dawson kicked a 23-yard field goal to win it for the 49ers in front of the home fans at Levi's Stadium.
It is worth noting that the Rams did not have Gurley in that game as he sat out due to a foot injury. His absence was huge as Tre Johnson started in his place and had just 44 yards. Keenum wasn’t very good as he threw for just 231 yards but the Rams still had a 16-10 lead at the half. Gabbert played well for the 49ers as he threw for 354 yards and a TD.
The Rams and 49ers also met early in the 2015 season with the Rams winning 27-6 at home. Gurley was huge in that game as he had 133 yards on 20 carries.
Rams vs. 49ers Free Picks
The Rams opened as 2-point favorites in this Monday night contest and that number is up to 2.5 while the total opened at 46.5 and has dropped to 44.5.
The Rams under Fisher are still not a good football team. They have talented players but Fisher finds a way to get the least from his teams and they usually finish 8-8.
The 49ers could be underrated this season as Kelly is going to improve the offense and San Francisco should have a chance to win more games than they did a year ago.
The Rams have been a rotten team to bet on against the odds at BookMaker.eu early in the season as they are just 15-37-2 ATS in their last 54 games in the month of September.
The Rams are just 1-5 ATS in their last 6 Monday games while the 49ers are 24-6 ATS in their last 30 Monday games.
The Rams have been a good team to bet under the total on the road with 38 of their last 56 road games going under while the 49ers have gone under in 18 of their last 23 home games. Four of the last five meetings in San Francisco have gone under the total.
I will take the 49ers plus the points and the game over the total.
