Raiders vs. Redskins ATS Picks

Pro Football Predictions Week 3 Lines

The Oakland Raiders put forth one of the more impressive wins of the season last week when they trounced the Jets 45-20 to easily cover the largest pointspread on the board. The Washington Redskins suffered a disappointing loss opening week, but bounced back on the road in Los Angeles where Jay Gruden’s squad logged the impressive 27-20 outright win as field goal underdogs to the Rams. With by far the highest total posted on the board, this Week 3 Sunday Nighter is sure to have some fireworks!

After covering 10 of its 16 regular season games a season ago, the Raiders money train has remained on track through the first two weeks. Jack Del Rio’s squad scored a solid outright upset at Tennessee to kick off the festivities in a game they closed as 3-point underdogs in. That win was followed up with a care free shellacking of the New York Jets who never stood a shot of competing right from the opening kick. After Amari Cooper stole the show in the opener, Michael Crabtree stepped to the forefront in Week 2.

The former Texas Tech Red Raider only hauled in six passes from Derek Carr, but three of them went for touchdowns to please his fantasy backers in a big way. When the dust cleared on the 25-point victory, Oakland racked up 180 yards on the ground and another 230 through the air. The Raiders will invade D.C. owners of the highest scoring offense in the league ( 35.5 PPG ). Defensively, Oakland has been susceptible on the ground ( No. 19 ), and it will likely get heavy doses of the Skins trio should all three be deemed healthy to play.

It was all doom and gloom for the Redskins heading into last week’s tilt in Tinseltown after dropping a 30-17 decision to the division rival Philadelphia Eagles in the season opener. All eyes were on Kirk Cousins who struggled in Week 1 only throwing for 240 yards while committing three turnovers that directly led to the Skins falling in front of the hometown faithful. But instead of relying upon him to lead the team via the passing game, Washington looked to the run after seeing that aspect of their attack get shut down the previous week.

Rob Kelley led all rushers on the ground with 78 yards on 12 carries ( 6.5 YPC ), but was forced to leave the game with injured ribs. That opened the door for both Chris Thompson and Samaje Perine to get more involved. The former made the most of his three carries turning them into 77 yards and a couple scores, while Perine was much less efficient gaining just 67 yards on 21 overall carries. Looking to the run at a near 60 percent clip certainly had the Rams confused. The plan worked, and will likely be carried over into Week 3 with run defense being Oakland’s Achilles Heel early on.

Player to Watch

Terrelle Pryor – now that Oakland will have film on Washington executing its ground attack with reckless abandon, there’s no doubt defensive coordinator Ken Norton Jr. will have his troops ready for it. That means Washington will need to make hay through the air. Something they did with regularity the last couple seasons, but has struggled to do over the first couple weeks. Pryor has been a non-factor to this point. It’s time he and Cousins started building a rapport, and this could prove to be the perfect opportunity with Oakland likely spending so much time figuring out how to stop the run leading up to the late kick-off.

Raiders vs. Redskins Picks

I’m not certain Oakland is at the point just yet of being worthy of laying road chalk. Remember, this is a team that went off the board as 3-point underdogs at the top 5 online sportsbooks in their season opener at Tennessee. Selecting a side winner in this one will be tough since I forecast it being a back and forth affair. One thing I do know however is that the FedEx Field scoreboard operators are going to get a workout. Oakland just put 45 points on the board with relative ease last week, and has played to high scorers three of the last four times it ran up against an NFC East opponent. As for Washington, it left a number of points off the board the first time it played in front of its rabid fan base and won’t want to disappoint a second time. The Skins last three matchups with AFC West opposition combined to go over, and it’s 7-3 in their last 10 time as hosts. There’s a reason this Sunday Nighter possess the highest total of Week 3. Look for points to dent the scoreboard!
