Raiders vs. Chargers TV Coverage: CBS
After living dangerously in two of the previous three weeks, it all caught up to Jack Del Rio’s squad last Thursday night in Kansas City where the Chiefs pretty much handled them with ease en route to sweeping the season series. Derek Carr has issues moving the offense in the first go round, but it was even worse in the second act with him throwing for just 117 yards and completing just 17 of his 41 overall passes.
It should be much easier this time around running up against San Diego’s No. 25 ranked pass defense, but Carr best be on red alert with the Chargers snagging five interceptions in their last three games. Amari Cooper has gone over the 1000-yard threshold in receiving yards, but the Raiders WR1 has been scary quiet over the last five weeks failing to surpass the 60-yard mark once. He went for 138 yards on six grabs in the first meeting, so it’s likely he puts forth his best effort in weeks.
San Diego was holding on to hope a few weeks back after upsetting Houston and handing the Texans their first defeat of the season. Unfortunately Mike McCoy’s squad was unable to build off the momentum after dropping back-to-back games to the Buccaneers and Panthers and failing to cover the closing pointspread in each contest. SD returns to Qualcomm where it’s 3-3 straight up and against the spread.
Philip Rivers has thrown for 225 or more yards each of the last three weeks, but he’s been extremely careless with the ball throwing six interceptions. While he’s evened it out with seven touchdown passes, he can’t continue preventing San Diego from putting points on the board if the team is to close the year on a high. He threw for a whopping 359 yards and four touchdown passes in the first meeting, but his two picks ended up costing his squad dearly in the 34-31 defeat.
Derek Carr – The Raiders gunslinger badly dislocated a finger on his throwing hand a couple weeks back, and it likely played a role in his poor showing versus the Chiefs last week. He entered that game at Kansas City having thrown for at least 260 yards in his previous three games, but only went for 117 last week. If he’s unable to get going, it’s likely Latavius Murray and the rest of Oakland’s ground assault plays a bigger role.
Melvin Gordon – The second year back has had a brilliant bounce back campaign in his sophomore season. Unfortunately, he might be done for the season after suffering a hip and knee strain in last week’s loss to the Panthers. He had one of his quitter days versus the Raiders in Week 5 rushing for just 69 yards on 16 carries and turning his one reception in to just 128 yards. The Chargers rush attack will now be led by rookie Kenneth Farrow moving forward.
Raiders vs. Chargers Free Picks
Most of the action is riding the Raiders in this matchup with a hefty 88.2 percent of the tickets written on the NFL odds at BookMaker.eu riding the visitors. With a number of both club’s primary offensive threats either out or nicked up, the total has fallen to 49.5 from 50.5 but nearly 75 percent of the tickets written expect a high scorer. I believe the reverse line movement is on to something. This rivalry hasn’t seen two overs cash in the same season for three years, and the under has cashed at an insane 15-5-1 clip the last 16 times these teams went at one another. I’m not exactly sure how, but I believe this one stays under likely due to some terribly timed turnovers.
