Location: MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ
Week 1 Preseason Opening NFL Odds: Giants -3, O/U 38
Steelers vs. Giants TV Coverage: NFL Network
The Giants are listed as 3-point favorites in this contest, simply because they are at home. The Steelers could have the edge in terms of the quarterback rotation, as they have two proven options in Ben Roethlisberger and Landry Jones, while the Giants only have one in Eli Manning. The Giants decided to sign Geno Smith as their backup quarterback. The Steelers also have Joshua Dobbs and Bart Houston, while the Giants have Josh Johnson and Davis Webb.
Player To Watch
If the Steelers cover the spread in this game then it will probably be due to the play of rookie quarterback Joshua Dobbs who figured to get most of the playing time in the second half. He was Pittsburgh’s fourth-round draft pick out of Tennessee and the Steelers are very excited about his potential. Dobbs has looked very decisive in training camp and not in awe of playing in the NFL.
“Not as easy as some might think,” Dobbs said to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “Because the quarterback has to understand what every single person on the field is doing. I’d say what has helped me is being an engineer because I’m a problem solver. At quarterback you have to solve problems quickly on the field.”
Steelers vs. Giants Free Picks
I have no confidence at all in Geno Smith playing well for the Giants, as he is more likely to throw an interception than a touchdown pass. If you call the matchup between Roethlisberger and Manning a push then Jones has the edge against Smith and in the second half I think Dobbs can hold his own for the Steelers. I will take the points at BetDSI with Pittsburgh. It is probably a good idea to take the three points early, as it is almost a given that the only way this number moves is down at the best NFL sportsbooks.
