Philadelphia Eagles vs. Pittsburgh Steelers NFL Preseason Picks on Thursday on NFL Network

Philadelphia Eagles vs. Pittsburgh Steelers Odds

NFL Network will be showing the Week 2 NFL preseason game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday night. The Eagles are coming off a win last week against Tampa Bay while the Steelers were beaten by Detroit. The Steelers will likely be home favorites in this contest but they have been an awful team in the preseason in recent years losing 12 of their last 14 games.

Here is a look at Thursday’s contest and NFL preseason picks.

Eagles Quarterbacks

The Eagles will not have rookie quarterback Carson Wentz for this game as he was injured in the first preseason game. Sam Bradford should get at least a quarter of action on Thursday night with backup Chase Daniel getting perhaps two quarters. There is a good chance that fourth-string quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson will get playing time in the fourth quarter.

Philadelphia would have liked to get Wentz some playing time in the preseason but that seems unlikely now which means he likely won’t start this season. “Carson felt some discomfort and soreness as we began this morning’s practice," head coach Doug Pederson said, "We decided to limit him throughout the remainder of practice and, as a precaution, sent him for a CT scan after practice. The scan revealed a hairline fracture in his ribs. We do not know an exact timetable for his return, but we hope to have him back before the end of the preseason.”

Chase Daniel did not play well in his Philadelphia debut but he wasn’t worried and neither was the team. Daniel signed a three-year, $21 million contract this offseason. “We had ups and downs,” Daniel, “We obviously didn’t play as well as we wanted to on the offensive side of the ball. Offense has a long way to go, but it was the first preseason game and we’re still in training camp mode, so hopefully we can fix it this week and get ready for Pittsburgh.”

Steelers Quarterbacks

Pittsburgh should be giving starter Ben Roethlisberger his first action of the preseason as he didn’t play last week. The backups for Pittsburgh didn’t play well last week as Landry Jones and Bruce Gradkowski did very little. Dustin Vaughan is the fourth-string quarterback and he may not make the team. Gradkowski suffered a hamstring injury in last week’s game and that injury will likely end any chance he had of winning the backup job from Landry.

Series Notes

The Eagles and Steelers have met 24 times in the preseason since 1975 with the Steelers winning 13 times while the Eagles won 11 times.
