Panthers vs. Raiders TV Coverage: CBS
The Panthers were left for dead after incurring a tough to swallow 41-38 loss in a game that saw them battle all the way back from a 21-0 deficit only to fall at the gun. Since going on bye in Week 7, Ron Rivera’s troops have taken their game to the next level and played more like the team that went to the Super Bowl last season than the one that got out to a surprising 1-5 start.
Carolina has won three of its four games played since, and would be a perfect 4-0 if not for choking away what looked to be a sure fire win against the Kansas City Chiefs. They looked to have the game in hand in the fourth quarter, but costly turnovers cost them the game. They avenged that defeat to the Saints last week, but in the process may have lost the heart and soul of the defense, Luke Kuechly, after he suffered yet another concussion. It will be interesting to see if the defense can continue playing at the same level since the bye without the unit’s leader.
It’s great to be an Oakland Raiders fan right now! That’s something that hasn’t been muttered since 2002, so you know those that pack the Black Hole are flat out loving what Jack Del Rio and his staff are currently doing with this team. Bettors are loving what the Raiders are cooking as well with the team covering the spread in each game of its current four game win streak as well as in seven of 10 overall games played.
As good as this team has been on the road, it’s surprisingly been more beatable when in the comforts of its own home. Oakland stand a perfect 6-0 SU and ATS away from Oakland Coliseum, but a more pedestrian 3-2 SU and 2-3 ATS as a host with losses incurred against the Falcons and division rival Chiefs. It did however score one of the more impressive wins of the season last time out at home where it scored the 30-20 win and cover against Denver.
+10 – The Raiders haven’t played the greatest of defense this season with it allowing upwards of 393 total yards and over 24 points per game; both rank out in the bottom third of the league. What it has done however is force a number of turnovers, 17 to be exact, that’s allowed for it to own the league’s No. 13 defensive yards per point average.
Only three other teams have turned the ball over more than the Carolina Panthers this season. Should Cam Newton and his mates once again be in a charitable mood, the Raiders will win the turnover battle, and with it, the game.
Panthers vs. Raiders Free Picks
The Panthers took advantage of having three home games during their recent turnaround with only a game at Los Angeles in the mix; an ugly game they pulled out 13-10 but failed to cover as 3 point road favorites. The win was their first away from Bank of America Stadium, and I don’t believe they will have what it takes to go into Oakland and take a streaking Raiders team down.
The Panthers have some bothersome injuries on the offensive line to add to the absence of Kuechly. They’ve failed to cover each of their last eight road games per the closing odds at Bookmaker.eu, and the favorite has come out on top in four of these franchises five all-time meetings. Oakland’s luck factor will catch up to them one of these days, but I don’t foresee that occurring this week even though the Raiders have been money-burners at home. Look for the David Carr lovefest to continue for at least another week!
