Packers vs. Redskins TV Coverage: NBC
Injuries on both sides of the ball have derailed the Packers season. But after getting annihilated by the Titans last week, rumblings have surfaced bantering about the job security of head coach Mike McCarthy. This is the first time ever the seat under his behind has gotten hot, so it will be interesting to see how he deals with the pressure moving forward.
DeMarco Murray’s 75 yard touchdown run only minutes into last week’s game set the tone right from the start. Tennessee piled on two more scores before Green Bay even sniffed the scoreboard. It’s been an ugly downward spiral for the Packers the last three weeks with Aaron Rodgers and his mates falling by a single point in Atlanta, five points at home to Indianapolis, and then by 22 last week at Nissan Stadium. That said, Green Bay was ice cold heading into last year’s trip to FedEx Field and still smashed the Redskins 35-18 as 2 point underdogs.
Save for a 38-16 pounding in their season opener against the Steelers, the Redskins have been in every game played to date. In their two losses, Washington lost by an average of just 3.5 points per game. In their five wins, the Skins won by an average of just 6.4 points per game. It’s safe to say that when Washington takes the field, the game is going to be competitive.
Save for allowing the Vikings to score 20 straight points in the second quarter last week, Washington’s defense was tremendous in shutting Minnesota out in the other three quarters to log the 26-20 win and cover. The lone eye opener was Sam Bradford throwing for 307 yards and Stefon Diggs the beneficiary with 164 yards on 13 receptions. Washington has been league average defending the pass thus far, so it better be on red alert this week with Rodgers throwing for 297 and 371 yards the last two weeks.
Matchup to Watch
A week removed from allowing Marcus Mariota going HAM on the Packers defense last week, Green Bay now has to deal with Kirk Cousins who enters Week 11 with the fourth most passing yards in the league. Sam Shields still won’t be suiting up for this game which means the Packers will be forced to limit Jamison Crowder, Pierre Garcon and Jordan Reed with what they got. The addition of Clay Matthews to the Packers pass rush would offer up a huge boost, but he’s currently listed as questionable after sitting out the last three games.
Packers vs. Redskins Free Picks
Washington has had absolutely no luck against the Packers in the team’s recent rivalry. In fact, you could say Green Bay owns the Skins with it 6-1 SU and 5-1-1 versus the closing NFL odds at BookMaker.eu in the team’s last seven meetings dating back to 2001. This however is a different season, and though most of the players on both sides partook in last year’s playoff game, Washington enters this tilt the much healthier of the two sides.
One ingredient that was missing in that game was Josh Norman. The Skins prized free agent acquisition is likely to take whomever he lines up against out of the play. With Green Bay having very little semblance of a ground attack, that will no doubt make it tougher on Rodgers to excel through the air. He only threw for 210 yards and a couple scores in last year’s game. That won’t be enough to get the job done this time around. Look for the Skins to get their revenge and move to 2-1 SU & ATS versus the NFC North.
