Opening Odds Analysis
Linemakers initially installed the home based Saints 3 point favorites with a game total of 56.5. It marks the tenth straight time New Orleans will have gone off the betting board favored to win at offshore sportsbooks. The last time they weren’t just so happened to come in the regular season meeting against the Rams when they went off the board as 1.5 point underdogs. The total closed at 57 in that matchup but never stood a chance of keeping both squads under the number after they combined for a whopping 80 overall points with 52 put on the board by halftime.
Though 56 percent of the bets taken in early wagering have sided with visiting Los Angeles, the Saints have increased to 3.5 point favorites. That lets it be known bigger money bets from the public are riding the home team, or respected sharp money has decided to lay the points. Heck, it could be a mix of both! As for the total, it’s also up a half point to 57 with over 60 percent of the tickets written expecting another barnburner to play out on Sunday afternoon.

Why Bet the Rams?
Los Angeles was favored to win each and every one of its games played to this point. Not even the Saints can brag about that. Though Todd Gurley and company only managed a 7-8-1 record against the closing NFL odds at online sportsbooks for the season, it still went on to win 13 games and got the job done at home against the Dallas Cowboys last week; the same team that got the best of New Orleans back in Week 13. This is a team that runs a balanced offensive attack that can strike at a moment’s notice, and it was humbled in a big way the last time it ventured into this arena earlier this season. It knows an optimum effort will be needed to prevail after it was able to battle back from a 21 point deficit to tie it up, but still went on to lose the game by 10 points.
Why Bet the Saints?
The Saints bookended losses in front of the hometown faithful after feeling the wrath of “Fitzmagic” and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their season opener and dropping a meaningless game to the Carolina Panthers in Week 17. In the middle, they scored six wins against the Browns, Redskins, Rams, Eagles, Falcons and Steelers and covered the closing number in four of those matchups. New Orleans has been incredibly tough to defeat in its home dome in the playoffs. Dating back to 2000, the Saints have won all seven of their playoff home games by an average of 9.71 points per game. That said, they only managed to cover three of those contests but this is the lowest impost they will be asked to cover during that stretch. After falling behind quickly to the Eagles last week, you can bet your bottom dollar Drew Brees and company come out determined with purpose in this win or go home rematch with the Rams.
