New Orleans Saints vs. Minnesota Vikings ATS Picks

NFL Opening Odds and Picks

Adrian Peterson makes his return to Minnesota as a member of the New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football on ESPN. The Saints feature a high-powered passing attack led by Drew Brees but now they have an additional weapon in the future Hall of Famer Peterson. The Saints are listed as road underdogs in this contest against a Minnesota team that is known for their tough defense. Let’s look at Monday’ game and NFL picks.

New Orleans Saints vs. Minnesota Vikings
Date and Time: Monday, September 11, 2017, 7:10 p.m. ET
Location: U.S. Bank Stadium, Minneapolis, MN
Week 1 Opening NFL Odds: Vikings -3.5, O/U 47.5
Saints vs. Vikings TV Coverage: ESPN

The Saints went 7-9 last season, while the Vikings went 8-8. The Saints feature Drew Brees who has thrown for at least 5,000 yards in a season five different times. He threw for 5,208 yards and 37 TD last season. The Vikings don’t have as potent an offense, as Sam Bradford threw for 3,877 yards with 20 touchdowns and five interceptions. Minnesota will have a new feature running back this season, as rookie Dalvin Cook takes over the lead role. Cook set Florida State’s all-time rushing record with 4.464 yards.

The Vikings have the defensive edge in this game, as they were third-best in yards per game last season and sixth in points allowed. The Saints were just 27th in the league in yards allowed last season.

Player to Watch

The player to watch on Monday night is of course Peterson. He rushed for 11,747 yards in 10 seasons with the Vikings. There is no question he will have a chip on his shoulder facing his former team. "In my mind, we're starting and ending the season in Minnesota," Peterson told the Minneapolis Star Tribune, "Of course I want to stick it to them. I want to stick it to everyone we play. But going back to Minnesota, playing the Vikings? Yeah, I want to stick it to them." Peterson will be wearing his familiar No. 28 but it will be in the black and gold of the Saints.

Saints vs. Vikings Free Picks

The Vikings have won 20 of the 31 all-time meetings against New Orleans including three playoff meetings but the Saints have taken the last four meetings. I am really surprised that the Vikings are laying points in this contest, as I think the number should be a pick. There is no doubt Peterson will be motivated and the Saints should challenge the Minnesota defense. I will take the points with New Orleans at BetDSI.
