New Orleans Saints vs. Houston Texans NFL Preseason Picks on Saturday

New Orleans Saints vs. Houston Texans Lines

The Houston Texans are slight favorites at home on Saturday night as they host the New Orleans Saints in Week 2 NFL preseason action. The Saints are coming off a loss last week against New England while the Texans beat the 49ers. The Saints are expected to give quarterback Drew Brees more playing time than he got last week when he threw just one pass while the Texans will be splitting up most of their reps between starter Brock Osweiler and backup Tom Savage.

Here is a look at Saturday’s game and NFL preseason picks.

Houston Texans -3, total 41

Quarterbacks

The Saints have an excellent starter in Drew Brees and a capable backup in Luke McCown who threw for 143 yards and a TD last week. The third string QB for the Saints is Garrett Grayson.

The Texans should be giving Brock Osweiler nearly a half of action on Saturday to get him comfortable in the offense. He didn’t do much last week as the many of the Houston starters didn’t play. Backup Tom Savage looked good as he threw for 168 yards and two touchdowns. The third string quarterback for the Texans is Brandon Weeden.

Osweiler threw just seven passes last week and completed four for just 27 yards. "Like he said after the game, we kept it pretty close to the vest," head coach Bill O'Brien said. "We ran the ball quite a bit. We threw some quick game. He had one fade ball to DeAndre (Hopkins) that was close. The DB made a really good play on it."

O’Brien said that more of the starters will play this week. “The thing about game one to game two, I think the biggest difference is that maybe some guys will play a little bit more. As we move towards game three, some of our starting players will probably play a little bit more in game two and then play a little bit more in game three and probably not play in game four. That’s kind of the big difference I see.”

Game Notes

The Saints lost their top NFL Draft pick Sheldon Rankins this week to a season-ending injury. It was a major loss as Rankins was expected to play a big role on the defensive line. "Here's how you handle injuries as a coach: You move on," defensive coordinator Dennis Allen said. "That's the only thing you can do. We're going to play 16 regular-season games this year no matter what. We've got a job to do. Our job is to go out and win and whoever we have available to us to go out and win a game, that's what our job is. And we'll be judged, whether we win or lose."

The Saints have not played well in the preseason of late as they have dropped their past five games. The Saints are 5-5 in Week 2 of the preseason under head coach Sean Payton. The Texans were 2-2 in the preseason in each of the past two years.

NFL Preseason Picks

This total of 41 seems a little high for a preseason game so I will go under the total at BetDSI sportsbook.
