Down 10-6 and with the ball late in the fourth quarter, it felt like the Lions were going to pull another rabbit out of their hat at New York last week. Unfortunately for those that took the 4 points with them, Detroit’s late game heroics failed to play out. Instead, it was the GMEN that came up with the game-clinching score to pull out the 17-6 win and cover. The loss snapped Detroit’s five game win streak and dropped them to 3-4 straight up and against the spread on the road.
Still, the defense did its job limiting its sixth straight opponent to 19 points or less, and kept the GMEN out of the end zone on the ground. Detroit hasn’t allowed a rushing touchdown in its last two games, and if able to mimic that effort for a third straight week, will have an excellent shot of handing the Cowboys their second home defeat of the season.
Dallas bounced back nicely from having its 11 game win streak snapped the previous week by taking down Tampa Bay 26-20 on Sunday Night Football. Unfortunately, the final margin of defeat came a couple points short of covering the number for their wagering supporters. Since rattling off nine straight pointspread covers, Ezekiel Elliott and his mates have gone 0-4 against the spread since.
Dak Prescott quieted all the noise of Tony Romo possibly returning under center last week by completing 32 of 36 passes for 279 yards and adding another 20 yards and a score on the ground. The rookie’s effort in his inaugural season just saw him get selected to his first Pro Bowl. The Lions have been easier to beat through the air than on the ground, so he’s going to once again need to step up if the Cowboys are to lock down the NFC’s No. 1 seed this week.
Player to Watch
Matthew Stafford – The Cowboys are giving up nearly 265 passing yards per game which equates to the league’s No. 28 ranking. Against the run however, no team has been better at stopping it with Dallas allowing just under 81 yards per game at 3.9 yards per carry. Detroit has no semblance of a rushing attack as it is, so if they’re to win this game, their QB1 has to have one of his best games of the season.
Dallas just gave up 247 passing yards and a couple scores to Jameis Winston last week. While it also picked him off three times, the trifecta only moved their season allotment to eight total interceptions. Stafford has only been picked off eight times all season, so if he plays his cards right, he should be able to take advantage of the Cowboys No. 28 ranked pass defense.
Lions vs. Cowboys Free Picks
Dallas has been favored by seven points three times this season. They’re 3-0 straight up and 2-1 versus the odds at Bookmaker.eu in those contests. We backed Tampa Bay plus the points last week, and we’re going right back to the well with the Lions in hopes of Dallas failing to cover for a fifth straight week. The last time these teams met in Dallas, Detroit coughed up a 20-7 second half lead and lost 24-20 to the Cowboys in the wild card round a couple years back.
With Green Bay now hot on their heels for the division title, I expect to see Detroit’s “A” game in this contest. The Lions have shown well on Monday Night Football covering five of their last six appearances, and the underdog has gone a money making 5-1 against the spread in the last six meetings. Look for the Cowboys to get another stiff challenge from an opponent, only this time, I don’t think they come out on top of it.
