Eagles vs. Seahawks TV Coverage: CBS
After absorbing a pair of bothersome road defeats to division rivals Dallas and New York, the Eagles managed to stop the bleeding last week at home by taking their frustration out on the NFC South leading Atlanta Falcons. After giving up better than 28 points each of the previous two weeks, Jim Schwartz’s defense flexed its muscles by holding the league’s top ranked scoring offense to just 15 points.
With it bringing up the rear of the division with a 5-4 record, this is a huge test for Philly who have been a completely different animal on the road. Save for a Week 2 trouncing of the Bears on Monday Night Football, the Eagles have had a rough go of it in the visitors role falling to the Lions, Redskins, Cowboys and Giants. Even though they failed to cover each game, they only lost by an average of 4.8 points per game.
The Seahawks always get up for big games, and when they’re on prime-time, it seems as if they step up even more. After tying the Cardinals 6-6 in their first night game, Pete Carroll’s squad has put forth back-to-back wins under the lights in successive weeks. The first came in the form of a 31-25 home win and cover against the Bills. The second came last week when they went into Foxborough and beat New England 31-24 as 7.5 point pups to halt the Pats win streak at four.
Even more impressive about the win was the fact that Bill Belichick’s squad entered that game off a bye. A week removed from lighting Buffalo up for 282 yards and two touchdowns, Russell Wilson exploded with his best showing of the season gouging the Pats defense for 348 yards and three touchdowns. He just might be fully recovered from his early-season injuries if he excels once again versus the Eagles No. 7 ranked pass defense.
Player to Watch
Carson Wentz – The rookie has hardly looked as such due to his command of the game and poise in the pocket. However, his stats haven’t been all that great with the North Dakota State product throwing for just 2,121 yards and nine touchdowns to five interceptions. Ryan Mathews blew up last week against the Falcons, but Atlanta owns a below average run defense. Seattle checks in at No. 9 defending the run and had allowed just six rushing touchdowns before LeGarrette Blount hit pay dirt three times last week.
It can’t all fall on the ground attack if the Eagles are to go into CenturyLink and actually compete with Seattle. Wentz is going to have to dig down deep and find a way to come up with a big showing through the air for Philadelphia to have a shot at winning let alone covering.
Eagles vs. Seahawks Free Picks
This season’s trend has been to back the Eagles at home and fade them on the odds at BookMaker.eu when on the road. I’m going to buck that trend here. Though Philly enters amidst a four-game losing streak as visitors, they’ve been extremely competitive in those defeats.
If Wilson goes berserk once again, so be it. Philly’s defense has what it takes to frustrate Seattle’s offense, and if it can force a couple turnovers and turn them into points, I think they can win this game. The Seahawks lone convincing home cover came against the wretched 49ers. Miami, Atlanta and Buffalo all had opportunities to win. Gimme the points with the Eagles in a major letdown spot for the home team.
