Make no bones about it, the Eagles are for real! Maybe not real enough to cash as +2800 underdogs to win Super Bowl LI, but real enough to stake its claim as being a bonafide NFC East contender. Still, the improvement the Eagles have made on both sides of the ball with the new regime in place has been impressive to say the least.
Their ability to beat the Vikings with excelled special teams play and the offense struggling to do much in the way of move the ball was quite the eye opener. Rookie Carson Wentz has settled in as a decent game manager that’s benefitted greatly from his defense forcing 12 turnovers to set him up with fabulous field position more times than not. Still, this club is going to have to show it can win away from the Linc with it dropping each of its last two road games after beating Chicago in Week 2.
The odds of Tony Romo taking back his QB1 spot once deemed healthy enough to return to action have plummeted. He’s a +1000 choice to lead the Cowboys out of the break in this game, and a +250 choice to do so the following week. With Dak Prescott continuing to get the job done, Jason Garrett will be hard pressed to bench his rookie stud even though Jerry Jones has a strong affinity for Mr. Romo.
Making the job easier for whichever player lines up under center moving forward is another rookie. Ezekiel Elliott has done nothing but excel in racking up 703 rushing yards since it all clicked for him against the Bears in Week 3. Since then, he’s rushed for an average of 142.3 yards over his last four games. Philly is weaker defending the run than the pass, so another solid outing is likely in store for the Boys dynamic running back.
Lost in the offense flourishing with a pair of rookies leading the charge is a Cowboys defense that’s made it very tough for all opposition to comfortably navigate their offenses up and down the field. Sean Lee and his mates rank top 5 in both total and scoring defense and possess the league’s No. 4 ranked defensive yards per point average. Quite the turnaround from just a short season ago!
Dallas is yet to allow more than 14 points in the second half of any game this season, but will be put to the test in this one with the Eagles possessing the league’s No. 2 ranked offensive yards per point average mostly due to the special teams setting the offense up with fantastic field position that leads to quick scores.
Eagles vs. Cowboys Free Picks
It’s tough to pick a winning side against the spread with both of these teams currently in the midst of bounce back campaigns. If forced to pick a side in this one, I’d lean the way of the Eagles who have won outright each of the three times it was dogged on the NFL odds at Bookmaker.eu.
Though the Eagles have played to high scorers in all three road games played to date, the Cowboys relentless defense will be the toughest they’ve seen away from the City of Brotherly Love. With Dallas doing a great job of limiting turnovers, the Eagles offense likely won’t benefit from miscues like they surprisingly did against Minnesota last week. Two of the Cowboys three played home games combined to go under the closing number, and with both defenses likely setting the tone in this pivotal tilt, I expect the scoreboard operators to be looking for something else to do to pass the time with points tough to come by.
