Week 1 Preseason Opening NFL Odds: Cowboys -2.5, O/U 37.5
Cowboys vs. Rams TV Coverage: NFL Network
The Cowboys are expected to give Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott their first work of the preseason on Saturday night. Dallas was able to win last week, although the offense did very little. The Rams will be starting Jared Goff at quarterback and hoping that he adjusts well to new head coach Sean McVay’s system. The Rams have a solid defense that was in the top 10 in the league last season so this could be a low scoring game.
The Cowboys made a discovery last week, as Rod Smith looked really good as the backup to Elliott and Darren McFadden. If Elliott is suspended, Smith could see playing time right away behind McFadden. Another player who looked good last week was Brice Butler who should get more playing time in back of Dez Bryant.
The Cowboys will give Prescott a series or two and then it will be Kellen Moore and Luke McCown. Last week it was Cooper Rush getting a lot of playing time and he may get mop up duty in the fourth quarter.
The Rams have Sean Mannion and Dan Orlovsky behind Goff and both are experienced backups but Los Angeles doesn’t have a ton of offensive talent behind the starters. They also have injury issues, as Tavon Austin is not expected to play. Los Angeles has no deep threat without Austin on the field, so look for short passes from the L.A. quarterbacks to receivers like Robert Woods, Cooper Kupp and Pharoh Cooper. "I know we have a lot of slot-body guys," Woods said, "but I feel like our guys can definitely roll. And if we hit them on intermediate routes throughout the whole game, something’s going to pop, because they’re going to have to step down eventually and play us honest. And that’s when we just run right by them."
Cowboys vs. Rams Free Picks
I am a little surprise the total on this game is 37.5 as I think the number at top NFL sportsbooks should be closer to 35. I will go under the total on Saturday night.
