Cowboys vs. Eagles TV Coverage: TBD
It's hard to believe that the Cowboys could even be in this game against the Eagles. Back on November 19, Philadelphia blew the doors off of Dallas at AT&T Stadium. The Eagles were 37-9 winners, and that game could have been a lot worse.
Granted, the Cowboys didn't have Ezekiel Elliott for the game, and Dak Prescott had arguably the worst game of his career. Elliott will be back in Week 17, and Prescott couldn't possibly be as bad in this game as he was in the middle of November.
The elephant in the room is that Carson Wentz isn't going to be involved in this game. Wentz tore his ACL in Week 14 against the Rams, ending his season. Nick Foles has beaten the Cowboys in the past, and he isn't going to be intimidated by this moment if the Eagles really need this game.
What's at Stake
Dallas has been hanging in there in the NFC playoff picture with Elliott at the tail end of his six-game suspension. The Cowboys head into Week 15 at 7-6, and they're very likely going to need to be 9-6 coming into this one to have a shot of getting into the playoffs.
The Cowboys are chasing a slew of teams right now, including the Panthers, Falcons and Seahawks while trying to fend off the Lions and Packers as well. Dallas needs to make up a game on both Atlanta and Seattle to get into the playoffs, and even winning the two games before this Week 17 clash leaves no guarantee that will be the case.
Should Dallas lose to either the Raiders or Seahawks in Weeks 15 or 16, there's a good chance they'll be eliminated from playoff contention. If that's the case, Jason Garrett could take a look at Cooper Rush at quarterback to see what he can do against a playoff-caliber club.
The Eagles have a slew of playoff possibilities as well with three weeks left to play in the season.
The easiest path to the No. 1 seed is by winning two of their last three games. If the Eagles get to 13 wins, the road to the Super Bowl will go through the City of Brotherly Love. Anything less, and the door is wide open for the Vikings, and perhaps even the Rams, Saints or Panthers to steal that top seed.
The great wild card is how Foles is going to play with Wentz out of the fold. He's had a good history as a starting quarterback, though he was never in that elite club that Wentz is inserting himself into. Can he hold it together for six or seven games and legitimately bring the Eagles to the Super Bowl? It's entirely possible.
Cowboys vs. Eagles Free Picks
All of the best NFL sportsbooks will be watching the games these two teams are playing intently leading into Week 17. The Cowboys will only have one sample game to see with Elliott back in the lineup, that coming in their home finale against Seattle in Week 16. If they can win that game, there's a decent chance they'll be chalks in this game against the Eagles.
If that's the case, we'd have to go ahead and take the points. The Eagles are just too good as a team to be getting points in a game like this one, especially in the likely case they'll be playing for the No. 1 seed in the conference.
