Colts vs. Jets TV Coverage: ESPN
The Colts have been an incredibly tough team to gauge this season. One week, they go out and get thumped at home by the Kansas City Chiefs. Another week, they go on the road to the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field and dominate the Packers en route to securing the 31-26 outright win and cover. Because of their inability to play with any sort of consistency, Indy sits a game under .500 but only a game out of first in the mediocre AFC South.
Injuries have played an enormous role in the Colts futility this season. Especially on the offensive side of the ball where it wasn’t until Week 11 that the offensive line was actually able to lineup the starting five it had penciled in before the season even kicked off. Of course, Luck went down with a concussion in the second half of that game and was forced to miss last week. Scott Tolzien stepped in, but we all saw how that experiment went on Thanksgiving. Not good!
A year removed from going 10-6 and just missing out on going to the playoffs, the Jets have been an utter disgrace this season in managing just three wins through 11 tries. This came as a huge surprise to me. The team looked to have bolstered the offense with the offseason signing of Matt Forte, and while the veteran has held up his end of the bargain, he’s been taken out of many games due to game script because NY’s defense has been nothing short of wretched.
While it did a great job frustrating the Patriots last week limiting Tom Brady and company to just 22 points and below its seasonal average in yards gained, I believe it had more to do with stepping up in a rivalry game than the defense actually turning things around. While it still does a great job defending the run in allowing just 3.6 yards per carry, it’s defensive yards per point average ranks amongst the bottom third of the league and its pass defense has been picked apart with regularity.
Andrew Luck – All signs point to the Colts QB1 suiting up for this game, but at the time of this writing, he was yet to get the thumbs up from the doctors. Make it a point to gauge his availability for this Week 13 concluder. Should he be able to go, Indy shouldn’t have many issues moving up and down the field. If not, I want no part of banking on Tolzien to cash my ticket.
Nick Mangold – The Jets Pro Bowl center has missed each of the last four games with an ankle injury. During that stretch, the Jets have passed for a grand total of 854 yards and thrown just five touchdowns and three interceptions. Jets quarterbacks were also sacked 11 times. He’s the quarterback of the Jets offensive line and his presence will be sorely needed to help get the offense going against a substandard Colts defense.
Colts vs. Jets Free Picks
The Jets went into Indianapolis in Week 2 of last season and handled the Colts with ease winning outright as 6 point underdogs per the closing NFL odds at BookMaker.eu. The win moved New York to 3-0 straight up and against the spread in these teams’ last three brawls dating back to 2011. Indy hasn’t beaten the Jets in the Big Apple since 2006, but I believe that changes after this one’s in the books.
With Tennessee on bye and the Texans heading to Green Bay on Sunday, Indianapolis could put itself in a great position to take the NFC South lead with a win. They get Houston at home next week, and it’s likely the Texans fall to a reenergized Packers outfit. Chuck Pagano and his staff can’t afford to drop a game like this. It will no doubt be the square play to back the Colts in this one, but square plays cash tickets all the same.
