Chiefs vs. Texans ATS Picks

NFL Football Betting Odds

A pair of exciting rookies will take to the gridiron on Sunday Night Football when Kareem Hunt and the Kansas City Chiefs lock horns with Deshaun Watson and the Houston Texans. The Chiefs remain the lone undefeated in the AFC after toppling Washington on Monday night, while the Texans pulled even with an impressive romp of the division rival Titans. Houston put an end to the Chiefs recent dominance of this rivalry last year by coming up with the 19-12 win in a similarly lined matchup.

Week 5 Opening NFL Odds at Texans PK, O/U 47

Chiefs vs. Texans TV Coverage: NBC

After the Chiefs took a 23-20 lead with only four seconds remaining, sportsbooks around the world figured the end result would go to the under and dog bettors. But in an ugly turn of fate for Washington backers, the Redskins went on to throw the ball around the yard and allow Kansas City to scoop and score to kick the front door in to remain one of only two undefeated teams against the spread. Washington backers were left in dismay shocked to have lost after covering the entirety of the matchup.

Regardless of what went down at the end of Monday Night Football, it was another tally in the win column for Andy Reid’s Chiefs who’ve been every bit as good as their 4-0 record indicates. A rejuvenated Alex Smith is the shot caller for the league’s No. 2 ranked total offense ( 405.2 YPG ) and No. 3 ranked scoring offense ( 30.5 PPG ). Though the defense suffered a huge loss in Week 1 after Eric Berry went down for the year, it’s still held its own. While it gives up some decent yardage ( No. 26 ), it’s only allowed the opposition to convert them into an average of 19.2 points per game ( No. 10 ).

Off a disappointing 36-33 last second loss in New England, the Texans took to their home field a desperate team looking to get the best of a Tennessee squad many believed were the toast of the AFC South. Houston had none of that, and showed just how annoyed it was about being installed home underdogs right form the get go. It took less than three minutes to get on the scoreboard, and Tennessee was only able to tally its first points once the Texans swelled the lead to 21-0.

When the dust cleared, Houston dropped 57 points on its division rivals to pull out the decisive triumph. Watson became the first rookie quarterback to throw for four touchdowns and rush for another since Frank Tarkenton pulled off the feat way back in 1961. The 57 points scored was the most in franchise history. On top of that, the defense simply shut the Titans dominant run game down ( 86 yards ), and tallied two sacks to go along with five forced turnovers.

Key Stat

5.4 – For the season, Houston is only averaging 4.8 yards per play which ranks out at No. 24 overall. But with Watson settling in under center over the last three weeks, the Texans have averaged a healthy 5.4 yards per play and played to two straight overs that destroyed the closing total by an average of 26.3 points per game. Kansas City’s new look offense has taken a bunch of pressure off the defense which has been relied upon to shut the opposition down for so many years. With that new mentality paired with Houston’s ability to actually move the ball offensively, it’s likely this Week 5 SNF tilt doesn’t play out like the snoozer each of the last two meetings between these teams played to.

Chiefs vs. Texans Picks

This is a horrendous spot for visiting Kansas City off a short week with the Pittsburgh Steelers paying them a visit next Sunday. Making matters worse for the Chiefs is the fact that Houston is a confident bunch right now having given the Pats a major run for their money and following it up with one of the most impressive beat downs of the young season. Had Washington’s defense not been ravaged by the injury bug in the second half of last week’s game, I firmly believe the Skins would’ve won that game. Only the fact that KC enters the tilt undefeated has the game lined at a pick ‘em at top NFL sportsbooks. Houston should be the field goal favorite. They’re at home, and playing with a ton of confidence right now. I don’t foresee the visitors getting out of dodge with an unblemished record still intact.
