Denver Broncos vs. Oakland Raiders
Date and Time: Sunday, November 6, 2016, 8:30 p.m. ET
Location: Oakland Coliseum, Oakland, CA
Week 9 NFL Odds at BookMaker.eu: Raiders PK, 44
Broncos vs. Raiders TV Coverage: NBC
Since dropping back-to-back games to the Falcons and Chargers, Gary Kubiak’s squad has seemingly turned it around with a pair of solid efforts. They dominated the Texans in the Brock Osweiler Bowl limiting Houston to just three field goals in an 18 point win and cover, and then followed it up with a grudge match triumph over San Diego last week with the defense conceding just 13 offensive points to improve upon its No. 5 ranked scoring defense’s overall stats.
Wade Phillips will likely be back to call the defensive plays after getting run over on the sideline and being forced to go to the hospital last week. While that will be a bonus for sure, Denver is going to have its hands full trying to contain one of the league’s most potent scoring offenses. Their chances of doing so would greatly improve if Aqib Talib was able to return to the field recovered from the back injury that kept him out against San Diego.
The Oakland Raiders are 5-0 on the road for the first time since 1977. The job Jack Del Rio and his staff have done with this franchise has simply been a joy to watch. The NFL is more intriguing when the silver and black actually have a team with a pulse. That said, Oakland has to figure out a way to improve upon its mediocre 1-2 SU and 0-3 ATS home records. No better spot than this one!
If indeed the Raiders are to take sole possession of first place within the division, Khalil Mack and the defense must continue improving upon their weekly play. While the defense ranks No. 31 in total defense, it’s done a better job keeping the opposition off the scoreboard. They had only given up 10 points through three quarters before the Bucs put 14 on the board in the fourth quarter. If they can keep that defensive intensity going for all four quarters, they’ll win this game.
Player to Watch
Derek Carr – How could we not put the spotlight on the Raiders QB1 after he threw for a whopping 513 yards and four touchdowns to lead Oakland to the 30-24 overtime win at Tampa Bay last week? He’s the ringleader of the league’s fifth ranked scoring offense, and sits only behind Ryan, Cousins, Brees and Dalton for most passing yards. His 17 passing touchdowns are good for third most in the league.
Denver possesses the NFL’s No. 1 ranked pass defense, but it could be without a key cog in this matchup. Regardless of whether Denver is at full strength for this one, Carr must take advantage once his ground game loosens the Broncos defense up.

The defenses shined in both of these rivals meetings a year ago. Denver went into the Coliseum and scored the 16-10 win and cover as 4.5 point favorites in the first go round, but the Raiders returned the favor in their trip to the Mile High City ousting the Broncos 15-12 as 6 point underdogs per the closing odds at Bookmaker.eu.
The last time the Raiders played in front of the hometown faithful, they were dominated by the division rival Chiefs who entered that game fresh off their bye. Denver could be without a few key cogs to its defense for this one, and it possesses the much lesser of the two offenses. KC and Denver have given Oakland fits in its own house for years. If the Raiders are truly a Super Bowl LI contender, this is a game that must be won. I expect them to hold serve and get a leg up in the division race.
