Broncos vs. Chiefs TV Coverage: NBC
Everything was on the up and up for the Broncos just six short weeks ago. They went into their bye off an exhilarating 25-23 win at New Orleans that saw the special teams block the go-ahead extra point try and return it the other way for the game winning two point conversion. Kansas City stole some of their thunder in Week 12 when a closing moment touchdown drive and two point conversion pushed the game into overtime where they eventually won 30-27.
That was followed up with a handling of the Jags in Jacksonville, but Gary Kubiak’s troops then dropped an ugly 13-10 decision at Tennessee; the same Titans team that just beat KC last weekend. The losing streak jumped to two last week when New England went into Sports Authority Field and handled the Broncos with ease. Most concerning entering this tilt is the Denver offense that’s scored a grand total of 13 points the last two weeks.
Boy did Kansas City blow it last week! After taking care of Oakland the previous week to sweep the season series, they went out and lost at the gun to the Tennessee Titans. Most bothersome is the fact that Andy Reid’s squad blew a 17-7 halftime lead by going scoreless in the second half after getting out to a quick 14-0 lead.
Tennessee had given up some monster passing totals the previous few weeks, yet Alex Smith was only able to muster 163 passing yards and was picked off once. He also failed to throw for a touchdown. Now he has to deal with the league’s No. 1 ranked pass defense that just limited Tom Brady and New England’s potent passing attack to just 177 total yards. Though it sits six games over .500, KC has been a major money burner at home where it stands 2-5 against the spread.
A number of big plays set the tone in the Chiefs 30-27 overtime win with both sides getting in on the action. Kansas City scored the game’s first points on a safety, and also got an 86 yard kickoff return for a score from speedster Tyreke Hill. Trevor Siemian had himself a monster game going off for 368 passing yards and three touchdowns. One of them went for 76 yards and the other for 35 yards to Emmanuel Sanders.
When it was said and done, Denver outgained Kansas City 464-273 but lost the turnover battle 1:0. The Chiefs got the stop in overtime it needed and then capitalized soon after. Both defenses combined for 11 sacks with Justin Houston and Von Miller stealing the shoe.
Broncos vs. Chiefs Free Picks
Last Sunday’s last second defeat marked the seventh straight game Kansas City partook in that was decided by a single score. We faded them at home on the odds at BookMaker.eu against Tennessee, and I’m going back for seconds in this Christmas night clash. The Chiefs are still running on fumes in my opinion.
The stop unit isn’t nearly as good as its scoring defense suggests, and it enters this crucial Week 15 tilt with some bothersome injuries on the defensive side of the ball. Houston was unstoppable in the first meeting, but is listed as questionable with a knee injury. Derrick Johnson is done, and Tamba Hali is also listed as questionable. Denver is the healthier team by far, and it enters this tilt with revenge and in desperation mode. With it getting points and dominating the first meeting statistically but coming up short on the scoreboard, I’m backing the Broncos and expect them to throw a wrench in the AFC playoff race by securing the huge outright win and cover.
