Washington vs. Arizona State TV Coverage: ESPN
Arizona State is sitting at 2-3 off of its bye week, and its road to a bowl game this year is starting to look murky at best. Home games against Washington and USC figure to end up in the loss column, and that cuts the margin for error to just one loss the rest of the way. Graham figures to have to make a bowl game to fend off the dogs for another season, and that isn't a comfortable position to be in.
Graham is trying his best to install a high-octane offense in the desert, but it just isn't working out that way. There are games in which Manny Wilkins looks like a stud, but far more often than not, he's merely average at best.
In totality, the numbers aren't bad for Wilkins; he's thrown for 1,452 yards in five games and is averaging 8.9 yards per pass attempt. Yet he isn't in the discussion as one of the top quarterbacks in the Pac-12 due to the fact that he just doesn't have that "it" factor. Throwing for eight touchdowns in five games with a defense on the other side of the field that is constantly allowing 500+ yards won't cut it.
There really isn't a ton to say about Washington. Every game is starting to look exactly the same. The Huskies have been consistent in every quarter this season. They're outscoring teams by 7.3 points per game in the first quarter, 9.1 in the second, 9.5 in the third and 6.9 in the fourth. No team in the land has had that sort of consistency, and that's why Jake Browning and company should be considered at an elite level at this point.
Browning's stats aren't out of this world this year like they were a season ago, but it's hard to complain about a man completing 70.5 percent of his passes, averaging 8.5 yards per pass attempt and tossing 14 touchdowns against three picks on 173 throws.
16 – The most points any team has scored against U-Dub this season.
It isn't an accident that the Huskies are No. 2 in America in total defense, No. 7 against the pass, No. 3 against the rush and No. 3 in scoring defense. The schedule has been suspect for sure, but this unit is borderline elite at this point.
Washington hasn't allowed more than 28 points in a game since the Heart of Dallas Bowl in 2015 against Southern Miss, the longest stretch in America. In that mix included holding Alabama to 24 points, USC to 26 points, Washington State to 17 points and Oregon to 21 points.
Arizona State has a solid offense that tries to put points on the board as quickly as it can. However, this is a huge task for sure, just as it was last season when the Sun Devils were beaten 44-18 and rushed for just 15 yards against Washington.
Washington vs. Arizona State Free Picks
Arizona State is 10-1 SU and 11-0 ATS against Arizona dating back to 2004. The Sun Devils seem to have the Huskies' number, right?
For our money, Washington has been the third-best team in America this season behind Clemson and Alabama, and we think this team is heading towards an Apple Cup against Washington State that could decide the Pac-12 North title and ultimately a spot in the College Football Playoff.
The Huskies have consistently been undervalued at all of the best internet sportsbooks, and we're set to roll with them once again, even as relatively large away favorites.
