Oklahoma vs. Oklahoma State ATS Picks

NCAAF Week 10 Picks

Bedlam isn't a game that is usually played the first week of November, but the schedule-makers are trying something new this season with the possibility that the Oklahoma State Cowboys and Oklahoma Sooners could be playing against each other in the Big XII Championship Game the first week of November. That doesn't take away any of the hype that is rightfully surrounding this Top 10 showdown.

Oklahoma Sooners vs. Oklahoma State Cowboys
Date and Time
: Saturday, November 4, 2017, 4 p.m. ET
Location: Boone Pickens Stadium, Stillwater, OK
Opening College Football Odds: Oklahoma State -3.5
Oklahoma vs. Oklahoma State TV Coverage: FOX Sports 1

The magnitude of this game cannot be understated. Both of these teams have already been saddled with a loss this year of comparable variety, and with the College Football Playoff Selection Committee expecting to leave the Big XII without a single top five team in its first rankings, the margin for error the rest of the way is nil for both of these squads. The loser's dreams of winning the National Championship will be dashed once and for all.

But there's so much more on the line than just that.

The Big XII title picture is as fuzzy as could be. The 10 teams will be whittled down to the top two that play against each other in the conference title game in December, and trying to figure out the possibilities is maddening. These two teams are two of the four squads at 4-1 in conference play with four games left to be played, and the loser is going to need a lot of help to get back into the equation.

Players to Watch

And then there's the Heisman Trophy discussion that has to be had.

We aren't sure if there's anyone out there who is running down Saquon Barkley for the nation's top individual honor, but both Baker Mayfield and Mason Rudolph can put themselves into the discussion with a great game in Bedlam.

Mayfield already has a signature moment this season from when he famously planted the OU flag in the middle of the field at Ohio Stadium after beating the Buckeyes. If he can repeat the feat in Stillwater, it'll be hard to deny him a seat at the Heisman table.

Remember that Mayfield is completing 72.5 percent of his passes, is averaging 11.1 yards per pass attempt and has a 23/2 TD/INT ratio all while playing on a team that lost almost all of its major offensive weapons from a season ago.

Rudolph still has all of his pieces to the puzzle in play from last year, and it shows. The lead Poke has thrown for 2,866 yards and 22 touchdowns versus five picks, and he, too is averaging over 10 yards per pass attempt.

You hate to say that this game is all about the quarterbacks, but when you've got two comparable sides, the play of the pivots is generally what it comes down to.

With a gun put to our head, we'd say that Oklahoma has the better of these two teams, but we're splitting hairs. Home field advantage could be the separating factor between these Sooner State rivals.

Last year's 38-20 win for Oklahoma in Bedlam was a closer game than you might have suspected. The Cowboys haven't really been all that close to the Sooners in recent years, and this is the first time they've been favored in this series since 2013.

The moment is just right as we see it for Rudolph, James Washington and the rest of the Cowboys. This is their chance to shine on the national stage, and the way their defense has played in recent weeks certainly makes it a lot more believable that they can slow down Mayfield and this OU offense.

Keep the Sooners in the 20s, and the Cowboys are going to beat the odds set by the top internet sportsbooks and make themselves national powers once again.
