Oklahoma State vs. West Virginia ATS Picks

NCAAF Week 9 Picks

The West Virginia Mountaineers might feel like they're on the outside of the Big XII title race, but they're still firmly in the mix, even with two losses out of the chute. Saturday's game against the Oklahoma State Cowboys will likely effectively be a conference title eliminator, especially with TCU off to its 4-0 start in conference play.

Oklahoma State vs. West Virginia TV Coverage: ABC

Last week was a strange one for Oklahoma State. A team that is normally incredible on offense managed just 428 yards against Texas. The game was hard-hitting from the start, and it was ironically the defense that made the play of the game by intercepting Sam Ehlinger in the end zone on the last play of overtime.

The key for the Longhorns was shutting down James Washington. The Pokes forced the ball into Washington's hands a few times, but any time you can hold one of the best receivers in the nation to four catches for 32 yards and hold this elite offense to just one touchdown, you've done your job. It's just unfortunate for Texas that it hasn't had the ability to close out these close games this year.

Texas' loss was Oklahoma State's gain, though, and if it can survive this one and next week's game against Oklahoma, it will have a great shot at running the table and getting a second chance at TCU in the Big XII Championship Game.

West Virginia still has some tough games left on the docket at Kansas State, home against Texas and at Oklahoma, and there's a good chance it doesn't live to tell about it.

That said, the Mountaineers gave TCU one of its best games of the season in a 31-24 loss a couple weeks ago, and it has taken care of business against the rest of its schedule. But just how impressive are wins over East Carolina, Delaware State, Kansas, Texas Tech and Baylor? We'll probably find out this week when the Cowboys come to Morgantown for the biggest home game of the season.

Matchup to Watch

Usually in this section, we pit a member of the offense against a member of the defense. In this case, the show that we're going to be watching is when Washington and David Stills are on the field at separate times.

Washington is the alpha dog of this Oklahoma State offense. Mason Rudolph often just throws balls up to him deep down the field, and more often than not, Washington is going to be the man coming down with the pill. He's excelled at that like few others in the nation, and he resembles another Oklahoma State product, Dez Bryant.

But let's not forget that West Virginia has a man who has been an unstoppable machine this year countering him in Stills.

Stills has 15 touchdowns this year on just 46 receptions, and he's found the end zone at least twice in all but one of his games this year (and does the game against Delaware State really count?). Stills' average game this year against FBS foes? 7.3 receptions, 119.7 yards and 2.5 touchdowns per game.

Oklahoma State vs. West Virginia Free Picks

On the surface, Will Grier and the West Virginia offense can rival that of Oklahoma State. However, the Cowboys are just a little bit better at virtually everything than the Mountaineers.

We just can't get over the hump of West Virginia's schedule. The fact that Texas Tech is the best team that WVU has beaten this year is something we just can't get past. It wasn't quite as close against either Virginia Tech or TCU as the final scores would indicate.

Plus, against a spread set by the college football sportsbooks of Oklahoma State -7, it isn't going to take much from the Cowboys to cover if they win the game.
