Louisiana Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns: OTB
Opening College Football Lines from Bookmaker
The ULL Ragin’ Cajuns make their third straight appearance in the New Orleans Bowl and will face home town Tulane, who makes their first bowl appearance since 2002. UL Lafayette has a balanced offense as they rush for 207 yards per game and pass for 237 yards per game. However, the status of starting QB Terrance Broadway is questionable after breaking his forearm vs. UL Monroe November 30th.
Without him, the Ragin’ Cajuns were beaten badly the next week in their season finale, losing 30-8 at South Alabama; ULL was in the midst of an 8-game winning streak prior to the UL Monroe game. UL Lafayette enters the New Orleans Bowl on a 0-5 ATS run against the closing NCAA football odds and lines.
The Ragin’ Cajuns defense is a concern as they have allowed at least 30 points in five of their last six games against sub-par Sun Belt teams. Tulane QB Nick Montana leads a weaker Green Wave offense but has a top-tier receiver in senior Ryan Grant ( 926 yards ).
Tulane has scored more than 17 points just once in their last five games. Still, the Green Wave has covered seven of their last eight games against the college football betting odds and lines thanks to a solid defense. UL Lafayette’s strength is running the ball with a thunder and lightning RB duo, but Tulane counters with a solid run defense allowing just 119 rushing YPG. The Green Wave thrive on takeaways and they were top-10 nationally and ranked #1 in Conference USA with a +12 turnover differential.
Further stabilizing the Tulane defense is DB Lorenzo Doss, who is #2 in the nation with seven INTs this season. He’ll be another key if ULL QB Broadway returns to balance the Ragin’ Cajuns offense.
Free Play: Regardless of QB Broadway’s status, this NCAA football odds game should have less scoring than expected. It’s strength vs. strength at the point of attack, and clearly without QB Broadway the Cajuns will run the ball even more. Tulane will try to play ball control as their offense is not strong enough to beat ULL, and they’ll rely on their defense to deliver in a lower-scoring game.
