Navy vs. East Carolina ATS Picks

Week 7 College Football Odds - Navy Vs East Carolina

The Navy Midshipmen are flying high right now. They're coming off of a huge upset against Houston to end the Cougars' chances of playing in the College Football Playoff, and now, they've got a legitimate shot to win a conference title for the first time in their history. That said, this is a prime spot for a letdown in Week 7, and the East Carolina Pirates would love nothing more than to pull off this upset and get themselves in the win column in AAC play for the first time this year.

Week 7 College Football Odds at BookMaker.eu: Navy -2.5
Navy vs. East Carolina TV Coverage: ESPN

The win at home against Houston last week was one of the best showings for a Navy team over the course of the last several years. Even going against one of the better rushing defenses in America, the Cadets did just enough, including getting 115 yards on 32 carries out of quarterback Will Worth. Worth played as gritty of a game as he has all season long and really had to go through the ringer, and this is a tall task to be able to come back and do it again.

Remember that the Middies were on the field for 82 plays against Houston just five days before this one will be played, and they allowed 484 yards. The Midshipmen are conceding 240.6 passing yards per game, and though the end result of 24.4 points per game isn't bad, we know they have a lot of work to do in order to get the job done against a reasonable team like ECU.

The Pirates have lost four straight games since upsetting N.C. State back in Week 2 to improve to 2-0. Of course, this schedule hasn't been easy at all. ECU has been beaten by South Carolina, Virginia Tech, UCF and USF, all teams that are heading to bowl games this year in all likelihood. Things don't get any easier here against Navy and Cincinnati over the course of the next couple weeks, but the Pirates really need one of these wins if they want to have a shot to get into a bowl game this year.

So often, the Pirates leave their games on the arm of Philip Nelson. He's thrown for 1,841 yards and 11 TDs thus far in 2016, and he's going to have to really have a big one on Thursday against a poor secondary. Isaiah Jones already has 84 catches for 840 yards this year, and he's going to be a focal point of this offense for sure.

Betting Trends of Note

Navy hasn't played on a Thursday night in quite some time, so this is new territory for a team that isn't used to playing on such short weeks. That said, the Midshipmen have had a pair of Friday night games over the course of the last two years, and they've failed to cover both games.

That's an interesting trend to follow for bettors for sure. You think of the Navy offense as one that's hard to prepare for, but in actuality, it might be the other way around. The Pirates have an offense that is really tough to prepare for as well, as no team the Middies have played against yet have a passing game like this.

Navy vs. East Carolina Free Picks

This is such a bad spot for the Middies. They have a short week and have to play on national television against a team that really has nothing left to play for but this game in front of the hometown crowd.

Bettors are going to be all hyped up over Navy, and that's why the team is favored at -2.5 on the college football odds at BookMaker.eu. That said, the Pirates are set for a better performance than this betting line suggests, and we think they're set to win this game to take the wind out of Navy's sails in a hurry.
