Georgia Tech vs. Clemson TV Coverage: ESPN2
No team in America needed a bye week more than Clemson. The Tigers have been reeling for sure having lost at Syracuse two Fridays ago in a shocking 27-24 defeat. The game was there for the taking for sure, and perhaps Clemson shouldn't feel so bad after the Orange came back a week later and pushed Miami to the brink as well.
It has to be a little concerning that Kelly Bryant didn't practice at all last week during the bye after suffering a concussion against Syracuse. The bigger concern is his mobility. Bryant was a sitting duck in the pocket against the Orange, and with that inability to run came huge hit after huge hit that he isn't accustomed to taking.
Bryant isn't the only man who is nursing an injury at this point for the Tigers. Greg Huegel is out for the season with a knee injury, leaving the kicking game up in the air for the time being, while super freshman Travis Etienne, one of the more explosive players in the ACC, has a hamstring problem that is slowing him down.
It's a bit ironic that Georgia Tech has had a hard time finishing off games this season. You'd think that a team that runs the triple-option should have no problem nursing second half leads. Instead, the Ramblin' Wreck have blown games against Tennessee and Miami. With those two wins, we're talking about a Top 10 team with a shot at reaching the College Football Playoff.
Instead, G-Tech is left out of the Top 25 completely, is assumed to be set to suffer a third straight loss and is tipped as a team that will barely reach bowl eligibility with games left at Clemson, at Virginia, home against Virginia Tech, at Duke and home against Georgia.
That said, Georgia Tech is also the only team in America with a perfect ATS record. While UCF and Fresno State are both without losses, both have a push to their credit. The Yellow Jackets are a perfect 6-for-6 this year in the cover department, making them one of the favorites to wager on at your favorite college football sportsbook.
The Last Meeting
Sure, Deshaun Watson and the rest of the amazing players from last year's offense are gone, but Clemson did bring back 10 starters from last season's defense. That defense absolutely pounded Georgia Tech into submission last year in a huge game at Bobby Dodd Stadium.
Georgia Tech was held to just 95 yards on 38 carries, something that is basically guaranteed to result in a loss when push comes to shove for a triple-option team.
The Yellow Jackets are averaging 372.8 rushing yards per game, No. 2 in the land, but it's going to be really hard for TaQuon Marshall and the gang to replicate that in this one in Death Valley.
Georgia Tech vs. Clemson Free Picks
Even though Georgia Tech has been in every game this season, the one thing we haven't really seen a lot of is what happens when it has to play from behind. History will tell you that games tend to get ugly for the Ramblin' Wreck when they start to fall behind against good teams.
Clemson just kept slowly pulling away from G-Tech last year, but we think this year's team is set to do even more damage, particularly off of its bye.
