Florida vs. South Carolina ATS Picks

You can change the head coach at Florida, but a quarterback isn't all of a sudden going to come running out of those doors at the Swamp.

Randy Shannon learned the hard way the problems the embattled Jim McElwain was having before he was let go last week when the Gators were crushed by Missouri on the road last week. It's hard to envision a road trip against the South Carolina Gamecocks is going to go any better.

Part of the problem the Gators are having this year is the fact that every team wants to step up and take its shot at them. They've been the dominant team in the SEC East for so long that everyone wants to exact a small amount of revenge on a team that is clearly down this year.

You think Will Muschamp might want to throw just a teensy, tiny bit of salt on the wound this week?

The big problem for UF, though, is that there isn't a legitimate quarterback on this roster.

Malik Zaire was given the starting nod for the first time since transferring to Gainesville from Notre Dame, and he was a wreck last week at Missouri. The graduate transfer went 13-for-19 for 158 yards and a touchdown in a 45-16 loss.

Feleipe Franks came in and played the end of the game, finally putting the ball in the end zone after three field goal drives over the course of the first three quarters.

We'd say that this is quarterback controversy, but in actuality, the only controversy is whether the Gators have their quarterback for next season on this roster yet.

South Carolina has its quarterback for the next couple seasons in Jake Bentley. The sophomore didn't play all that well against Georgia, but any time you go on the road and play against the No. 1 team in America, you don't expect stellar results.

The fact that the Gamecocks are 6-3 in a year that there isn't a man who has even 350 rushing yards on the team is a testament to their defense and to the fact that Bentley has continued to be consistent and hasn't given up a heck of a lot in terms of huge negative plays and turnovers.

Quote to Note

"It's sometimes disappointing when everybody doesn't want to come together and just play for each other. That's sad to see. We've still got a lot to play for. Me personally and our defense, we want to play for those guys. We can't have appearances like we just had today. That's unacceptable." – Florida linebacker Dave Reese after the Gators' loss to Missouri

This talk should have come weeks and weeks ago out of one of UF's defensive leaders. This team has been horrible on both sides of the ball for weeks at this point, and now that the chances of going to a bowl game are basically gone, there really isn't anything left to play for.

Thus, you have to wonder if these comments are only going to further stick the Gators into a pit of despair.

Go back and watch the third quarter of that Ohio State/Iowa game. The fake field goal that doomed the Buckeyes That was so ridiculously out of character for Kirk Ferentz, but he saw a huge opportunity to bury the No. 6 team in America.

We could see the same out of Muschamp in this one.

Muschamp is a guy who plays it by the books and doesn't take a lot of chances. We can only imagine what's going to happen when the Gators are down by double-digits in the fourth quarter and the opportunity arises to throw a match on the kerosene.

There's no way we can take the points with the Gators at our favorite internet sportsbook.
