Duke vs. Louisville TV Coverage: ESPN
The Blue Devils scored one of the biggest upsets of the season a couple weeks back when it went into South Bend and ousted the Fighting Irish 38-35 as near 20 point underdogs. David Cutcliffe’s kids failed to build off that surprising victory the following week at home against Virginia whom they fell to by a 34-20 final count as 3.5 point favorites dropping them to 0-2 SU and ATS in the ACC. They went off the board favored to win each game.
Favored they are not in this their third road game of the season against Louisville. The last time linemakers tabbed the Blue Devils underdogs of this magnitude, they got destroyed by Florida State 45-7 back in 2013 and failed to cover the closing 30 point spread.
The offensive dynamo that is the Louisville Cardinals will be back for another tilt under the prime time lights. So far in 2016, Lamar Jackson and his mates have throttled Charlotte and Syracuse by the aggregate score of 132-42 and covered each of those games with ease as -38.5 and -17 point favorites respectively.
Both teams ahead of them in the Atlantic division standings won last week, Clemson and NC State, so it’s likely Bobby Petrino will have his kids out to score some more style points in this one. The Cardinals own the nation’s top ranked total and scoring offense, and there likely won’t be anything Duke and its above average defense will be able to do anything about it. The Blue Devils 15.9 defensive yard per point average ranks No. 40 in the country, but it’s yet to run up against an offense as potent as Louisville’s.
With the Cardinals having 13 days to get ready for this one, there’s no doubt they game planned a bit for what lies down the road next week with the Wolfpack paying Louisville a visit. That’s not to discredit what Duke has done to date, but let’s face it, the Blue Devils are far removed from the team that went to the ACC title game back in 2013.
That said, the Cardinals had absolutely no problem disposing of the Marshall Thundering Herd in a look-ahead spot earlier this season before taking on Clemson covering for early bettors and pushing for those that got to the party late.
Duke vs. Louisville Free Picks
Though these are all college kids taking the field on Thursday night, it’s going to be men versus boys in this one. Duke simply doesn’t have the offensive makeup to stick with the Cardinals let alone kick the backdoor in late. It has no semblance of a ground attack that will strike fear into Louisville’s defense, and its No. 119 ranking in offensive yard per point average will have it taking way too long to put points on the board should it even do that.
Petrino has had no issue running scores up whenever he can this season, and I expect that to once again be the case here tonight with the Cardinals looking to wash that nasty taste from the Clemson defeat out of their mouths. It’s a ton of chalk to lay on the odds at BookMaker.eu, but just do it!
