It's worth remembering that not all is lost for the Cougars at this point. They're still going to be favored in more of their games than not the rest of the way, and if they do happen to run out heading into the Apple Cup against Washington, they'll be right in the mix for the College Football Playoffs or a spot in the Rose Bowl.
Washington State is also 10-1 in its last 11 games played here at Martin Stadium. The one exception was the loss to U-Dub in the Apple Cup last year. That Huskies team went on to the College Football Playoff, so there's certainly no shame in that setback.
It's clear now that Colorado doesn't have a team anywhere near as strong as the one that played for the Pac-12 Championship last season. The Buffaloes have already been beaten three times in conference play, and their wins against Colorado State, Texas State, Northern Colorado and Oregon State leave little to be desired.
At least the team picked up a victory last week over the Beavers, though to go to Corvallis and beat the worst team in the Pac-12 by three points is nothing to throw a tickertape parade about.
The Buffs have just one cover since their Week 1 win in Denver over Colorado State, and that came against a UCLA team that has turned into a complete and utter sham itself.
Colorado's winning formula is to get the ball into the hands of Phillip Lindsay as many times as it can. Unlike last year when Sefo Liufau was able to make things happen on his own, Steven Montez isn't that talented and needs a boatload of help at this point in his career.
Last week against Oregon State, Lindsay carried the ball 28 times and racked up 185 yards and two touchdowns. The week prior against Arizona: 41 rushes, 281 yards and three scores.
Lindsay is a tiny guy, and at 5-foot-8, it's a wonder if he can take this type of pounding for the rest of the year or not. That said, it's hard to argue with a man who has accounted for 28 total touchdowns in the last season and a half and has rushed for well over 2,000 yards in that span. Getting Lindsay up near not just 100 yards, but 200 yards in all-purpose yards is darn near a must in a game the Buffaloes are going to have to score plenty of points to win.

Mike Leach said he was ashamed of his team after the way that it laid an egg in Berkeley last Friday night. We suspect we're going to see much better this time around against Colorado.
Luke Falk isn't throwing five interceptions in a game all that often, and we don't suspect he's going to be under nearly as much pressure in this game as he was against the Golden Bears.
We don't understand the lack of love for the Cougars in this game. They're only favored by 10.5-points at all of the best college football sportsbooks, but for our money, they're at least three scores better than one of the worst teams in the Pac-12, particularly here at Martin Stadium.
