NCAA Football Betting Lines
LSU Tigers: -4
Clemson Tigers: +4
The season started for Clemson here at the Georgia Dome against a set of Tigers out of the SEC, and the season is going to end that way as well.
The Tigers from the ACC had a great season, averaging 42.3 points per game on the campaign. QB Tajh Boyd probably would have been a serious Heisman Trophy contender if not for the fact that he just never had things going in the biggest games of the year. Still, Boyd threw for 3,550 yards and 34 TDs, and he rushed for 492 yards and nine scores to help his team dominate in ACC play on the college football betting lines.
It was a banner year for RB Andre Ellington, who had 1,034 yards and eight scores on the ground, and it was a campaign to remember for WR DeAndre Hopkins as well, who had 1,214 yards and 16 scores on 69 receptions. About the only man that truly disappeared from this offense though, was WR Sammy Watkins. As a frosh, Watkins had well over 2,000 all-purpose yards and found the end zone 12 times. This year, he had just 708 yards receiving, 100 yards rushing, and a total of four scores.
QB Zach Mettenberger is the key to beat the college football gambling lines for the Bayou Bengals. The freshman had some great moments this year, but in the end, he was still a freshman trying to play big boy college football in the SEC. The end results weren't terrible with 2,489 yards and 11 TDs against six picks, but they weren't great either.
The offense, as a result, lives and dies with the ground game. None of the LSU rushers had all that great of a season, but combined, RB Jeremy Hill, RB Kenny Hilliard, RB Michael Ford, RB Spencer Ware, and RB Alfred Blue combined to rush the ball 410 times for 2,108 yards, and 22 TDs. Production like that will help any team beat the college football wagering lines with regularity.
Free Pick – Clemson might have won the same 10 games that LSU did this year, but when it ran into good competition, the team was just manhandled by the South Carolina Gamecocks and Florida State Seminoles. Watch out for the Bayou Bengals and their defense, which should be able to get in the face of Boyd all game long and force him into decisions that he just doesn't want to make. That's where the boys in purple and gold will truly excel in this final bowl bash of the 2012 calendar year.
