Gus Malzahn knows that he's going to have to get his Auburn offense going at some point this season. The Tigers have all of their weapons at their disposal, and they've had some moments where they've really looked good, but they're still only averaging 387.3 yards and 23.7 points per game.
Getting Kamryn Pettway back in the fold has helped out tremendously. Pettway was the saving grace in an otherwise drab game against Mercer last week. He ran for 128 yards and three touchdowns, though it should also be noted that he only averaged 3.8 yards per carry.
In just two games this season (Pettway was suspended for Week 1), Pettway has run the ball a whopping 56 times, a huge amount for a backfield that was supposed to be a fair split with Kerryon Johnson this year.
Missouri has nothing going for it right now. The Tigers are 1-2 SU and 0-3 ATS, and they've allowed at least 31 points in all of their games this year.
That said, it's not really the defense that is all at fault. This offense has been all over the place these last two weeks against South Carolina and Purdue, scoring a total of just 16 points in the two defeats. Explosive plays flat out aren't there at the moment since the 72-43 whooping of Missouri State. This is the last game of a four-game home stand to start the season, and it's hard to see another victory coming any time in the near future with roadies against Kentucky and Georgia coming up after this one is over with.
38:41 – The number representing the total time of possession Missouri has had in its last two games.
The Tigers flat out can't do this to their defense anymore. They've been on the field for over 80 minutes in the last two weeks, and now, they have to play against a team that loves to go up-tempo and can be one of the more dangerous in America when it really gets going.
Drew Lock has completed just 42.9 and 43.8 percent of his passes in his last two games, and he has been picked off twice in both games.
There's nowhere else for Mizzou to turn to at the pivot spot, so it's a wonder whether this team is going to be able to right the ship this year at any point with an offense that has been running itself into the ground – and quickly!
Auburn vs. Missouri Free Picks
All of the best college football sportsbooks have set the trap here. Auburn is still a relatively public Top 25 team, and it's expected to win this one by double-digits on the road. There's a decent chance that happens, but we suspect the Missouri offense is going to finally kick it into gear in spite of the fact that it's playing against a defense that is barely yielding 200 yards per game thus far in 2017.
Lock is a better quarterback than what he has shown in these last two games. He threw for 3,399 yards last season and was a lot better in terms of his accuracy that he has been in 2017. If the offense can just give this defense a bit of a breather, anything could happen. Missouri can pull off this upset.
