Week 7 CFB Odds: Auburn -6
Auburn vs. LSU TV Coverage: CBS
One of the reasons Malzahn was on the hot seat is that he was considered to be an offensive guru, yet was struggling to get production out of quarterbacks in recent years. That is no longer the case as Jarrett Stidham has come to the fore with a 71% completion rate and almost 10 yards per pass attempt to effectively compliment one of the better ground attacks in college football, keeping defenses guessing and off balance.
The LSU Tigers may have won last week but remain a program in crisis with a head coach in Ed Orgeron that is far better suited for work as a defensive line coach. LSU athletic director Joe Alleva is one of the worst and most incompetent in the NCAA and is the Real Man of Genius who gave Orgeron a Nick Saban sized buyout even as nobody else was even remotely interested in the Cajun as a head coach for their program.
Matchup to Watch
The matchup of the well balanced Auburn offense against a decent to at times good LSU defense is what this game will come down too. Meanwhile LSU has no pop at all on offense and that is not likely to change against a very underrated Auburn defense.
The other matchup where Auburn has the huge advantage is at head coach. Malzahn is a masterful game planner and play caller while Orgeron is a cheerleader. This is a classic case of chess vs. checkers!
Auburn is on a roll and has become of one of the most impressive teams on the college football betting board. The Tigers are coming off a 44-23 home win and push over Ole Miss which followed a 49-10 home payout against Mississippi State and a 51-14 payout on the road against the Missouri Tigers. Auburn ranks 13th in the nation for total defense and sixth best nationally for points allowed. Auburn is 5-1 straight up, 2-2-2 against the spread, and 3-3 over/under the total.
LSU scored an ugly 17-16 win at the Florida Gators and failed to cover as 1.5 point chalks. The Tigers now stand at 4-2 straight up and 1-4-1 against the spread. The win, ugly as it was, was a much needed topic changer after the disastrous 24-21 homecoming loss to Troy in the prior week. LSU has gone under the total in four out of six games. LSU ranks a respectable 18th in the nation for total defense but a horrible 78th for total offense.
Auburn has won two out of their last three meetings with LSU and has covered the spread in four out of their last five meetings against the Bayou Bengals. LSU and Auburn have gone under the total in five out of their last eight games. LSU has won eight consecutive straight up games against Auburn at home with three payouts in their last four games at Tiger Stadium against Aubie. LSU and Auburn have gone over the total in four out of their last five games at LSU.
Auburn vs. LSU Free Picks
This game would serve as a golden opportunity for Orgeron to score a brand name signature win but the reality is that Auburn is in top form and the more complete team. I like the Auburn Tigers to cover the spread in this one.
