We all know about the legend of Johnny Manziel and the way that he was able to play against Alabama. That said, since the point that he left for the NFL, the Aggies have had zero luck against Alabama, losing all three games and failing to cover all three.
Is this year's team any different?
The Aggies have proven that they can play after taking care of business against South Carolina and Arkansas in back-to-back weeks. This, of course, is a much different challenge, but A&M wasn't ever expected to be on the same de facto field as Alabama.
The Crimson Tide just continue to roll, though. Over the course of their last two games, they have outscored Vanderbilt and Ole Miss by an aggregate of 125-3. They've allowed just 14 first downs in those two games combined, and the clubs have barely combined to put up 300 yards of offense against the Alabama defense. Meanwhile, the Crimson Tide have just shy of 1,300 yards in those two performances, thrusting Jalen Hurts into some serious Heisman Trophy discussions as we near the midway point of the campaign.
Hurts' stats aren't going to jump off the page at you. He has only thrown for 747 yards and rushed for 461 more. His 10 total touchdowns are far from dominant. But he also hasn't turned the ball over this year and is the man keeping the Tide on schedule offensively every step of the way.
Nick Saban wakes up in the morning and pours himself a bowl of freshman quarterbacks for breakfast. Now, he gets to feast on one for dinner.
Not since Johnny Football has a freshman quarterback had any real degree of success against the Alabama defense, and it's easy to think that Kellen Mond will join the list of other really talented freshmen who have had their worst games against this unit.
Mond has done a nice job not turning the ball over this year, but in crucial moments, we still question whether he can get the job done. He did against Arkansas, and he was surely good enough against South Carolina as well. But we can't help but remember that UCLA game in which he looked like a deer in headlights towards the end of the game when he just needed to generate a couple first downs to close things out.
Mond will have some moments for sure in every game that he plays. Yet the IMG Academy standout is averaging just 6.4 yards per pass attempt and could be prone to double (or more!) his interception total for the season, one that currently sits at two.

It's sad that there isn't such a thing as a top sportsbook that has the fortitude to put up a somewhat reasonable-looking line for an Alabama game any longer. The team was favored by 19.5 at Vanderbilt and 30 against Ole Miss, and both of those numbers were laughable.
How do you bet against a team that has averaged leading teams at the end of the third quarter 40.2-4.6 this season? And how do you bet against a team that hasn't allowed a single point in the third quarter of a game all year?
Simply put? You can't. The Aggies are a nice story to this point, but they aren't ready for this battle. This is set to be another one-sided romp. We aren't getting off of the Alabama train until the Tide make us.
