BC is happy that it doesn’t have to play Edmonton again until late October. The Lions’ only two losses this season have come at the hands of the Eskimos. They have been a solid road team this season, with a 3-1 SU and 3-1 ATS mark. However, all of those wins came against teams from the East. BC has yet to cover a game against another team from the West.
Like the rest of the West, Saskatchewan has been rock solid against the East. The Roughriders have covered all three of their games against the East, but has failed to find the same success against the West. Sasky has yet to cover any of its three games against fellow West Division teams. All three of Saskatchewan’s home games have ended up over the total this season.
The spread in this game opened at 2.5 or 3, depending on where you shop. It has come down due to questions about BC’s quarterback situation.
These two teams squared off last week and it was never a contest. BC jumped on Saskatchewan early and pushed the lead to 30 points before taking its foot off the gas pedal. The Lions held the Roughriders scoreless for the first 57 minutes of the game and Saskatchewan needed a circus catch from Duron Carter to break the shutout. Sasky went on to score once more to make the final 30-15.
Kevin Glenn was lackluster against the Lions and the longtime veteran was well aware that his time as the Roughriders starting quarterback may be coming to an end. He threw two interceptions in the game and backup Brandon Bridge put up great stats in garbage time.
The allure of Bridge is considerable. He is the first Canadian quarterback that has the potential to start in this league in years and being able to use him as a starter means freeing up another spot for a non-import. Bridge is still extremely raw and his mechanics still need to be fine-tuned, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him announced as the starter this week.
Travis Lulay has been exciting since replacing Jonathon Jennings as the Leos’ quarterback. However, it’s unclear who will get the start for BC in this one.
Jennings came into the season as the starter, but suffered an injury to his throwing shoulder after throwing just one pass in a Week 4 tilt against Hamilton. He has been healing ever since then and BC was fortunate to have an experienced pivot to turn to in Lulay.
Now, it’s Lulay that’s banged up. He took a big shot to the ribs against Saskatchewan and although the injury is being described as sore ribs, indications are that it might be more severe.
Jennings has been taking more of the snaps in practice this week and although head coach Wally Buono has yet to say it, will probably get the start.

This looks to be a perfect spot to bet the under. While both defenses have struggled at times this season, the quarterback situations for both teams are going to lead to offensive hiccups. Bridge starting would be especially good for the under as he doesn’t have the command of the offense that Glenn does.
