Boxing Picks – Alex Saucedo vs. Maurice Hooker Betting Preview

Boxing Betting Odds

Alex Saucedo captivated the boxing world in his last bout against Leonardo Zappavigna which was a brutal barbaric throwback to the origins of the sport. Which of course is exactly what everyone loved about it! Saucedo scored a seventh-round technical knockout win over Zappavigna and drew rave reviews afterwards from fight fans desperate for a tough guy in the Super Lightweight class. Well Saucedo will be going up against one of the toughest champions in that division on November 16 when he steps into the ring against Maurice Hooker. At stake will be Hooker’s World Boxing Organization World Super Lightweight title belt which he won in his last bout against Terry Flanagan. Top Rank Boxing has been salivating to put this matchup together in Saucedo’s home town of Oklahoma City.

Chesapeake Energy Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma will be the venue for the World Boxing Organization World Super Lightweight title bout between challenger Alex Saucedo and current champion Maurice Hooker. The fight can be seen on ESPN and is scheduled for 12 rounds. The date for this championship bout is set for November 16, 2018.

Fight Preview

Maurice Hooker enters this WBO championship bout with a record of 24-0-3. Of his 24 wins a total of 16 have come by knockout. Hooker is 29 years old and a native of nearby Dallas, Texas where he still resides. Hooker is currently ranked eighth in the world and fights from an orthodox stance. “Mighty Mo” is coming off a 12 round split decision win over Terry Flanagan on June 9, 2018 at the Manchester Arena in Manchester. What is most pertinent about Hooker’s win against Flanagan is that it took place in Flanagan’s own back yard. Defeating Flanagan for the title belt in his hometown was the best possible preparation for this upcoming fight with Saucedo as it is the same scenario for Big Mo of facing an opponent as the “road team” for the highest of stakes.

Alex Saucedo is 24 years old and a native of Mexico that now resides in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Saucedo has a career record of 28-0-0 with a total of 18 knockouts for his career. “El Cholo” fights from an orthodox stance and is ranked 16th in the world. In Saucedo’s last bout on June 20, 2018 he defeated Leonardo Zappavigna in a technical knockout that took place in the seventh round of a scheduled 10 round fight that took place at the Chesapeake Energy Arena. The bout was a similar setting for Saucedo in that he was fighting in his hometown for the title belts of the World Boxing Association, North American Boxing Association USA, and World Boxing Organization International Super Lightweight titles.

To Rank Chairman Bob Arum has been gushing over Saucedo and his championship potential.

“Alex Saucedo is a tremendous world class fighter,” said Arum. “Maurice Hooker is a worthy champion, but Alex will have the home crowd on his side in what promises to be an incredible atmosphere. Oklahoma City loves Alex. This fight will attract thousands to the Chesapeake Energy Center.”

This will be Hooker’s first title defense when he steps into the ring against Saucedo in Oklahoma City.

“I will turn his dream into a nightmare,” said Hooker. “He will find out why I am world champion. I don’t care where I fight. The ring is my home, I’m gonna punch him in the mouth, Mexican style.”

Roc Nation promoter Dino Duva is also thrilled with this matchup.

“I am over the top excited about this great matchup between Maurice Hooker and Alex Saucedo,” said Duva. “It has fight of the year written all over it. Saucedo is a very tough kid, but I’m confident in Maurice. He will continue his journey to superstardom and prove he’s the best 140 pounder in the world.”

Saucedo is getting a lot of hype because of his last bout and because he is fighting in his own back yard. But that will only add to Hooker’s value.
