NBA Betting – Warriors vs. Rockets Picks

NBA Odds

The Houston Rockets haven’t taken kindly to the Golden State Warriors knocking them out of the playoffs in seven games last season. One only has to look to the current season’s matchups against the rivals for proof. James Harden and company have won and covered the first three confrontations at top rated sportsbooks, and will be looking to bust out the brooms in the second leg of Wednesday night’s ESPN doubleheader when the Western Conference heavyweights collide in the Toyota Center for the final time in the regular season.

Warriors vs. Rockets TV Coverage: ESPN

At 26-39-1 against the spread, the defending champs enter the week as the absolute worst investment in the Association. The Warriors enter this tilt off arguably their most embarrassing loss of the season after falling at home to the Phoenix Suns as whopping 17-point favorites. The defeat moved Golden State to 4-6 straight up and a bankroll killing 2-8 ATS the last 10 times the team hit the hardwood. While many are of the belief the team will be able to flip the switch when it matters most, it’s safe to say this year’s squad has the most question marks as the regular season comes to a close.

As it stands right now, the Rockets own the No. 3 seed in the West and sit four games in back of the conference-leading Warriors. With only 16 games remaining on the docket, time is running out for Houston to make a run at the catbird seat to guaranteed home court advantage leading up to the NBA Finals should they make it that far. The team will likely take to its home court amidst a nine-game win streak after hosting the struggling Charlotte Hornets on Monday night. Win that game and they’ll take the Warriors on having won 24 of 33 when in front of the hometown faithful.

Impact Player

Clint Capela – The Rockets premiere rebounder and shot blocker has made a huge impact for the team since returning from the thumb injury that kept him out of action for a month. Since returning to the starting lineup, Houston has dropped only one of its last nine games to snag a comfy 3.5-game lead atop the Southwest Division standings. He’s had much success versus Golden State this season in averaging 15.7 points and a whopping 15.3 rebounds per game. Capela was one of the main reasons why the Rockets went into Oracle Arena back on February 23 and scored the impressive 118-112 outright win and cover as 12-point dogs in going got 8 points and 15 rebounds. If the Rockets are to protect their house and sweep the season series, No. 15 must have another big game.

Matchup to Watch

If Golden State is to avoid the embarrassment of losing another to the Rockets on Wednesday night, it’s going to need to get much more production from its frontcourt. The big three of Klay Thompson, Steph Curry and Kevin Durant have all done their part to lead the team to victory versus Houston this season, but the same can’t be said of Draymond Green and DeMarcus Cousins. The former has nearly been invisible against the Rockets in combining for 13 points and 20 rebounds in the three prior meetings. His best production came in the assist department where he combined for 16, but upper management isn’t paying him to disperse the basketball. Cousins has only opposed the Rockets once this season and had a monster game with 13 points, 14 rebounds, 2 assists and 4 blocks. In order to offset the damage Capela and Kenneth Faried will do down low, this duo must rise to the occasion and at the very least balance the action out for the Dubs to come out victorious.

Bet Warriors vs. Rockets at

The Warriors have outshot the Rockets in all three meetings played to date. That ultimately resulted in squat evidenced by Houston entering this skirmish 3-0 SU & ATS in those matchups. What killed Golden State the most was turnovers. They committed a ton of them! In the most recent loss played on February 23, Golden State committed 17 turnovers to the Rockets 14 and ended up falling by six points. Coming off an embarrassing 115-111 loss to the Suns in which they coughed it up 16 more times, I can’t help but think ball security will be high on the team’s checklist in the final matchup of the regular season. I faded Golden State in their next game against Denver coming off a loss to Boston. I won’t be making that same mistake this week. Golden State owns the rest advantage and will be going all out to avoid getting swept. With that, I’ll be backing them at offshore sportsbooks and expect to see one of their best efforts put forth in weeks.
