The Wildcats just flat out continue to get the job done. Jay Wright’s kids own a 25-2 overall record and 12-2 mark in conference play. It’s taken care of business both at home (13-0) and on the road (7-2), and most importantly, hasn’t killed its wagering supporters by splitting its 26 overall lined games against the spread.
The defense has been even better than it was a year ago with the unit conceding an average of just 62.7 points per game (No. 16) and a 41.3 percent shooting percentage against (No. 58). On top of that, it’s allowing just 7.0 made 3 pointers per game. Unfortunately for those that laid the 17.5 points with them against DePaul, the defense couldn’t stop the Blue Demons from kicking in the backdoor due to a stellar second half performance from Chris Harrison-Docks. Though the team has won seven of its last eight overall, it’s put its backers in the poor house by managing just one cover during that stretch.
At 16-9 overall and sitting a game under .500 in Big East play, it’s safe to say this is the biggest game remaining on the Pirates regular season schedule. A win here today would probably allow for them to get off the bubble and snag the attention of the selection committee. Kevin Willard’s kids took a step closer last time out against Creighton whom it defeated 87-81 as 1 point favorites.
Though the Bluejays knocked down 45.5 percent of their shots and drained 11 of 26 from beyond the arc, Seton Hall was in control every step of the way. It got a huge game from Carrington who went for a game-high 41 in his 38 minutes of play, but even more impressive was Angel Delgado’s 17 rebounds that helped lead the way towards demolishing Creighton on the glass 40-21. Seton Hall owns the rebounding advantage in this matchup, but it will be up to Delgado, Desi Rodriguez and Ismael Sanogo to make it stick this time around.
It’s going to be extremely tough for Nova to match the intensity of the home team in this game. Seton Hall needs a win here badly and will likely be pulling out all the stops to get it. The Wildcats on the other hand know full well that they can wrap up the Big East title back at home next week when they welcome in both Creighton and Butler; the two teams that just so happen to be chasing them in the standings. Already playing with a short bench, it will be interesting to see how Nova combats the depth the Pirates throw at them Saturday night.

The first go round between these teams was an all-out annihilation. Villanova raced out to a 13 point halftime lead and quickly built it up to 19 right out of the break. They coasted from there to log the 76-46 win and cover on the basketball odds at BookMaker.eu, and with it, won their fifteenth straight over the Pirates in The Pavilion.
This game however takes place on the Pirates home floor where its covered two straight and five of the last six against the Wildcats. I keep going back to it, but it’s very important. Seton Hall needs to win this game. Villanova does not. The Pirates have the depth, rebounding prowess and home court advantage on their side, and I expect them to ride that to the huge win and cover.
