The Buffaloes will invade Eugene winners of three in a row for the fourth time this season. None of the previous three win streaks saw them stretch it out to four straight, and the odds won’t be in their favor of getting the job done this time around either. Regardless, Tad Boyle’s kids enter playing some good ball with the offense averaging 74 points and the defense conceding just 55.7 points over the last three games.
While it looks good on paper, you have to take the caliber of opposition into account. The trifecta of wins was accrued against Washington, Washington State and Oregon State. Combined, the teams have won a grand total of six Pac-12 games. Not surprisingly, they bring up the rear of the conference standings. Against the better teams in the league, Colorado has gone 1-5 straight up and 2-4 against the spread.
It’s gotten to the point that you just blindly have to back the Ducks when they play in the comforts of their own arena. Dana Altman’s troops have flat out destroyed pretty much all that’s gotten in their way. To date, Oregon stands an unblemished 16-0 in front of the hometown faithful and has covered nine of the 15 lined games against the spread. They tallied another one on Thursday night when they toyed with Utah for 40 minutes before pulling out the 79-61 win and cover as 11.5 point favorites.
Tyler Dorsey, Brooks and Jordan Bell have been the lifeblood of the offense all season. Brooks leads the team in scoring with 15.1 points per game. Bell is the leading rebounder, and Dorsey has been a killer from deep when on. That trio combined for 53 of the team’s overall output against the Utes, and they’ll be called upon to help the team even the series up with the Buffaloes on Saturday.
Colorado hadn’t covered a game in its previous five entering its January 26 bout with the Ducks. That didn’t prevent them from giving Oregon its stiffest challenge since squeaking one out against UCLA in its Pac-12 opener. They main key for the Buffs was rebounding the basketball, and it got huge games from Wesley Gordon, Xavier Johnson and George King who combined for 23 rebounds and three blocks.
The Buffaloes defense also held up its end of the bargain limiting the Ducks to a 38.6 percent showing from the field and forcing 15 turnovers. Colorado only shot 42.4 percent from the field itself, but took advantage of 10 more attempts from the charity stripe where it converted on 16 of them. The loss dropped Oregon to 0-7 in its all-time visits to Colorado, bit it’s won and covered three of the four times it hosted the Buffaloes as Pac-12 rivals.

Taking on both Oregon schools seems to have been the elixir to get Colorado on track. Before facing Oregon State before the Ducks, it had dropped its first seven conference tilts. Since those two wins, it’s gone on to win four of its last five games on the back of its defense. This will however be its stiffest challenge since going into Berkeley to run with the Golden Bears; a game they lost by 11 as 7 point underdogs per the closing college basketball odds at BookMaker.eu.
Line makers will throw another inflated number on the board for this one, and when they do, I suggest taking the points with the surging Buffs. Oregon will no doubt be out to avenge that loss in Boulder, but Colorado showed me it can match up with the Ducks in that bout due to its rebounding prowess and ability to hold onto the basketball. Look for scoring to be limited as well with these teams playing to low scorers each of the last three times they went at one another in Eugene with an average of 119 points per game put on the board.
