Yankees vs. Red Sox Picks

Baseball Wagering Odds

What a fantastic matchup to close the week out on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball than the New York Yankees versus the Boston Red Sox. Should the visitors take care of business in the first three games which includes the first leg of tonight’s doubleheader, this game will be for the AL East lead. David Price will be out to prevent that from happening in a revenge spot after the Yankees beat him up pretty good in his third start back from the DL.

Things haven’t gone too swimmingly for Joe Girardi’s troops who stumbled to the finish line to close out the first half. New York went into the All-Star break dropping back-to-back home series against the last place Toronto Blue Jays and NL Central leading Milwaukee Brewers. The latter is understandable, but there’s no excuse for a Toronto team 10 games under .500 on the road to win a series in the Stadium.

The Yankees have to improve their play on the road if Aaron Judge and his mates are to see this season all the way through. As competitive the division is, it’s likely New York won’t finish atop the standings should it continue playing .442 ball in the visitor’s role. In doing so, they’ve zapped MLB bettors bankroll’s by $617 overall.

Boston entered its final series of the first half flaming hot tallying wins in six straight games and eight of its last nine. That’s why dropping three of four at home to the Tampa Bay Rays came as such a shock. The offense was largely to blame with it once again going dormant. Save for the 8-3 win, the Red Sox scored an average of just 1.3 runs per game in the three defeats.

The Red Sox have gotten some exceptional pitching both on the starting bump and in the bullpen. Unfortunately, the arms have had to go above and beyond to help lead the team to its 50 wins with the offense way to hit or miss. While the unit ranks top 10 in both batting average ( .268 ) and runs scored ( 4.8 RPG ), it’s only launched 92 balls into the cheap seats ( No. 26 ). The offense has had to work extra hard to plate its runs. Thankfully, it’s been able to flash some speed by swiping 54 bases ( No. 8 ).

Two of the best shutdown units in the game will be going up against one another in this one. Boston checks in with the No. 3 ranked bullpen ERA ( 3.08 ), while the Yankees check in at No. 6 ( 3.66 ). It tumbled in the standings the last couple weeks with Dellin Betances inexplicably losing his control. Aroldis Chapman was also forced to pitch in a number of non-save situations. He’s never good in those. If both starters are able to build the bridge, live betting the under would be wise. If you can time a second half wager on the under, it would be even better.

Yankees vs. Red Sox Picks

Regardless of the fact that I have no idea who will be throwing for the Yankees in this matchup, I still like the idea of hitting the over on the total odds at New York will have already stepped in the batter’s box to oppose two left-handed pitchers in the first two games of this series. Only the Dodgers, Cubs, Brewers and Astros have scored more runs against southpaws than the Yankees this season.

On top of that, Price was raked for eight hits ( 2 HR ) and 6 ER when he last threw at New York back on June 8. His ERA jumped up to 4.69 and his BAA to .281 lifetime facing the Yankees. I don’t care if he threw four straight quality start to close the first half, the Bronx Bombers are going to touch him up again.
