Texas Rangers vs. Detroit Tigers
Date and Time: Sunday, May 21, 2017, 8:10 p.m. ET
Location: Comerica Park
Probable Pitchers: Yu Darvish vs. Matthew Boyd
Astros vs. Yankees TV Coverage: ESPN
Since dropping two of three to the Mariners and then the series opener to the Padres, Jeff Banister’s Rangers have been playing with their hair on fire. They went on to win the next three games against the Padres to take the series, and then followed it up by sweeping both the a’s and Phillies at home to improve to a $$4-making 16-8 when in the comforts of their own ball park ( $720 ).
That said, Nomar Mazara and his mates have been terrible on the road in winning only six of their 18 played games for a -$547 return on investment. The pitching staff has really stepped it up of late in allowing an average of just 2.7 runs per game throughout the win streak, and the bullpen has completely swept its troubles in April under the rug.
The Tigers are currently tied with the Indians for second place in the AL Central a game in back of the front running Twins. How that’s possible is a bit perplexing when you take into account the team’s average offense and pitiful bullpen. That said, it’s played a solid brand of defense and has gotten some excellent pitching performances from the starting rotation.
Taking two of three from the Orioles after coughing up the series opener due to yet another blown save was very impressive. Even more so with Miguel Cabrera not partaking in either of the two victories. Detroit has won 11 of its 19 overall home games for a modest $207 return on investment, and it’s offense looked to have found its groove against the O’s in averaging 7.3 runs per game.
Miguel Cabrera – Don’t you hate it when you have a tight groin? I know Miggy’s fantasy backers sure do! Detroit’s All-Star first baseman was forced to miss the last two games due to a Grade 1 oblique strain. It’s unknown as to if he’ll suit up for this series, so keep an eye out for Ausmus’s lineup card to make sure he’s in it before backing the home team.
Victor Martinez – Victor smacked home runs in two of the three games against the Orioles. His big bat will be missed as he was put on the Paternity list through the weekend. With him and Miggy potentially out of the lineup, navigating through the Tigers lineup will be easier to stomach for Texas’s pitching staff.
Rangers vs. Tigers Picks
I’m very interested to see which Darvish we see in tonight’s game. Will it be the one that’s gone seven-plus innings in three of his last five starts, or the one that went six or less four times. We know he has the stuff, but he’s yet to take on an offense as potent as Detroit’s and you have to think Miggy will be able to give it a go in this one. Matthew Boyd has failed to impress this season. Especially at home ( 5.09 ERA ) and in night games ( 6.26 ERA ). That said, Texas is batting just .203 against lefties ( No. 29 ), so he could thrive. With Victor out and Miggy likely hampered if he can even go, I can’t help but think the Sunday nighter will be of the lower scoring variety on the total odds at BookMaker.eu
