Phillies vs. Red Sox Series Preview

Baseball Sports Betting Lines

The Philadelphia Phillies and Boston Red Sox are set to engage in interleague warfare through Thursday with the first two games going down at Fenway and the series closing out in the City of Brotherly Love. The BoSox have taken six of the last seven matchups between these franchises and this will be their first run-in since September of 2015.

Philadelphia Phillies vs. Boston Red Sox
Dates: Monday, June 12 – Tuesday, June 13, 2017
Location: Fenway Park

Now 21 games under .500 after getting swept in St. Louis to drop their fifth straight, it’s become clearly evident that a change needs to be made either at the top or on the field. The rebuilding process hasn’t gone as planned, and because of it, the seat under Pete Mackanin’s behind has gotten hotter with every passing game. Philly has come out on top in just four of their last 19 road games and sits 17 games under .500 as a visitor ( -$1382 ).

With the Yankees currently beating all that stands in their way unmercifully, the Red Sox can’t afford to let series like this against a sub .500 team escape them. The series win over Detroit was the team’s fourth in its last six tries, but it still sits four games behind its hated rival in the standings. John Farrell’s squad has been solid at home where it’s come out on top in 19 of its 30 played games ( $309 ) with the under cashing at a 16-13-1 clip.

Game 1 Probable Pitchers - Monday, June 12, 2017, 7:10 p.m. ET ( Local TV )

Jerad Eickhoff vs. Rick Porcello

Only one other team in the bigs has tossed fewer quality starts than that of the Phillies ( 20 ). One of the main guilty parties for such an atrocious mark has been Eickhoff whose 33.3 quality start percentage is the second worst on the staff. No pitcher has hurt MLB bettors’ bankrolls more than the righty with Philadelphia just 2-10 in his 12 made starts ( -$853 ). He’s 0-5 with a 4.89 ERA on the road where the Phillies have failed to win any of his six starts. The over went 4-2 in those outings.

The reigning AL Cy Young Award winner saw his two game quality start streak get flushed down the toilet at New York in his most recent turn where the Yankees bludgeoned him for eight hits ( 2 HR ) and six runs ( 5 ER ) through 6.1 innings. The loss was his third straight which dropped him to 3-8 overall. Boston has lost five of his seven home starts where he’s conceded 55 hits and 24 ER through his 42.1 innings of work. Porcello’s 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA and .271 BAA against the Phillies lifetime, and lost to them as a member of the Red Sox back in 2015.

Game 2 Probable Pitchers - Tuesday, June 13, 2017, 7:10 p.m. ET ( Local TV )

Ben Lively vs. David Price

Lively doesn’t possess the counting stats of a typical ace, but he’s shown a penchant for eating innings which is something Philly’s starting staff has failed to do all season. Through two starts, he’s gone seven innings in each and allowed a grand total of 4 ER. However, he allowed 13 combined hits and they came off the bats of the Braves and Giants whose offenses pale in comparison to what he’s going to throw at tonight. It’s safe to say there won’t be a bagel in the HR column when this one’s said and done with Boston equally as potent against righties and lefties.

It’s game day for Mr. Price which means he’ll actually speak to the media. However, if this outing goes as poorly as his last one in the Bronx, he might want to bypass all post-game interviews. The Yankees shellacked him for eight hits ( 2 HR ) and 6 ER through five innings to hand him his first loss of 2017. He’s served up at least 1 HR in each of his three starts, and the Phillies have been a bit more potent against lefties ( 4.3 RPG ) than righties ( 3.8 RPG ). This will however be his Fenway debut where he went 9-3 through 17 2016 starts.
