Washington Nationals vs. Los Angeles Angels
Date and Time: Wednesday, July 19, 2017, 10:07 p.m. ET
Location: Angels Stadium
Probable Pitchers: Gio Gonzalez vs. Undecided
Nationals vs. Angels TV Coverage: ESPN
The Nats have possessed one of the best offenses in the league all season long. Headlined by Bryce Harper, Ryan Zimmerman, Anthony Rendon and Daniel Murphy have also held up their end of the bargain in leading the attack to the second best batting average ( .279 ) and OPS ( .819 ) in the league. That unit just combined to score 29 runs over the weekend!
The bullpen is what’s ailed the team and prevented it from amassing one of the best records in the game. Upper management hopes it just rectified that situation over the weekend by going out and snagging both Ryan Madson and Sean Doolittle from the Oakland A’s. If in fact it does the trick, Washington will likely be the favorite to come out of the NL.
This is a huge week for the Halos who hardly got their second half started off on the right foot. Mike Scioscia’s troops almost just got swept at home by Tampa Bay, and needed to withstand a ninth inning Rays comeback just to secure a single win in the matchup. The series defeat was the team’s third straight.
Los Angeles has no shot at coming back to steal the AL West pennant away from the Houston Astros. With that, it’s wild card or bust for Mike Trout and company. Heading into the week, the Halos sat 4.5 games off the pace and will have to run up against the Boston Red Sox following this series before jumping on a plane to battle the AL Central leading Cleveland Indians.
Neither of these squads has fared well in interleague play. The Nationals have only managed a 6-7 record against the American League with the over cashing in seven of those contests. The Angels sport an identical 6-7 record against the National League with the over also coming in for total bettors in seven of those matchups. Washington has been one of the bigger moneymakers on the road in winning 29 of 46 games for an $867 return on investment. The Angels sit two games over .500 as a host for a $48 return on investment. These teams last met in 2014 when the Angels went into D.C and took two of three.
Nationals vs. Angels Picks
Irregardless of not knowing who will toe the starting bump for the Angels in this matchup, I want absolutely no part of them on the odds at BookMaker.eu. Gio Gonzalez has been pitching like a man possessed having thrown quality efforts in each of his last nine outings. He just tossed a near complete game shutout at the Great American Ball Park against a much more potent Reds offense, and now gets the pleasure of matching wits with the Angels who rank No. 21 against lefties while averaging just 4.0 runs per game. The Nats being able to utilize the DH and possibly having the backend of their bullpen fixed only sweetens the pot.
