MLB Betting – Mariners at Angels Odds

2018 MLB Betting Odds

The Seattle Mariners begin a four-game road trip on Thursday night, as they visit the Los Angeles Angels on MLB Network. The probable pitching matchup has Mike Leake going against Matt Shoemaker. Let’s look at Thursday’s game and MLB picks.

The Seattle Mariners will try and keep their fading playoff hopes alive, as they begin a four-game series against the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday night in a game that can be seen on MLB Network. The Mariners are behind the Athletics for the final Wild Card spot in the American League and realistically their chances of catching Oakland are remote. The probable pitching matchup for Thursday has Mike Leake going against Matt Shoemaker. Let’s look at the game and MLB picks.

Seattle Mariners vs. Los Angeles Angels

Location: Angel Stadium, Anaheim, CA
MLB Odds: Check Back Later
Probable Pitchers: Mike Leake vs. Matt Shoemaker
Mariners vs. Angels TV Coverage: MLB Network

The Mariners have actually been a decent road team this season, as they are 38-33 away from home. They have gone over the total 37 times on the road and under 34 times. They are averaging 4.1 runs per game and giving up 4.2 per contest.

The Angels are going nowhere again under manager Mike Scioscia who inexplicably still has his job. The Angels can’t even win at home, as they were 34-35 in their first 69 home games. They went over in 30 of those games, under 36 times, with three pushes. They are averaging 4.5 runs per game and giving up about 4 runs per contest.

Starting Pitchers

The Mariners are going with a six-man rotation for the rest of the season, so it looks like Leake will get this start on Thursday. He is 9-9 with a 4.11 ERA. He has made 28 starts and he has pitched 171 innings and given up 189 hits. He has 109 strikeouts and 33 walks. He finally got a win last time out that ended a streak of 11 starts without a win. He gave up seven hits and two unearned runs in six innings against Baltimore. The Mariners have lost three of Leake’s last four starts against the Angels with all three games going over the total.

Matt Shoemaker is 2-0 with a 2.45 ERA this season. He has made just three starts and he has looked good. He has thrown 15.2 innings and given up just 13 hits. He has 11 strikeouts with six walks. The only concern with Shoemaker is that he has yet to pitch into the sixth inning, as he works his way back to full strength. The Angels have won the last four starts by Shoemaker against the Mariners with three of the four going over the total.

Series Notes

The teams have split their last ten meetings, but the Angels have won three of the last four, with three of those four going over the total. The Angels have won six of the last ten at home against the Mariners, with three of the last four going over the total.

Baseball Betting Picks

Mariners vs. Angels Picks

It is hard to trust either of these teams, but there is no question that the pitching matchup favors the Angels. Shoemaker has looked good in his return from the DL and Leake is simply just another arm. I will lay the small price and take the Angels in this contest. The total is also of interest. The trends are definitely in favor of this game going over the total, but the Mariners are not scoring any runs so unless the Angels explode against Leake it is hard to see this game getting to 10 runs. The Mariners do have a very good bullpen, so if Leake can survive five or six innings this should be a low scoring game. I will take the Angels to win the opening game of this series and also play the game under the total.
